PM Modi Receives Russia’s Highest Civilian Honour

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with Russia’s most prestigious civilian honour, the Order of St Andrew the Apostle. President of Russia Vladimir Putin presented it to Mr Modi.

  • The award recognizes Prime Minister Modi’s distinguished contribution to developing a privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India and fostering friendly ties between the two countries. The award was established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great in honor of Saint Andrew, the first apostle and patron saint of Russia.

Ban On Pro-Khalistani Fringe Group

  • Centre extended the ban on pro-khalistani fringe group ‘Sikhs For Justice’ by another five years. The action has been taken under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

  • A Government notification said, the organisation has been indulging in activities which are prejudicial to the integrity and security of the country.
  • Sikhs for Justice is a US-based group run by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who was declared a designated individual terrorist by India.
  • The NIA has registered many cases against Sikhs for Justice and Pannun. The Centre had banned the organisation in 2019.

Best Agriculture State Award for 2024

  • The 15th Agriculture Leadership Awards Committee has announced that Maharashtra has won the Best Agriculture State Award for 2024.
  • The announcement was made by the committee headed by Justice P Sathasivam, former Chief Justice of India and Governor of Kerala.
  • Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, will receive the award on July 10, 2024, at a function in New Delhi.
  • Maharashtra secured this prestigious award due to its innovative agricultural and rural initiatives. The state government’s policies and high-impact developmental projects have significantly contributed to agricultural and rural prosperity.

International Space Station Mission Under Axiom-4

  • ISRO has shortlisted two of its four trained Gaganyaan astronauts for a mission to the International Space Station (ISS) in collaboration with United States’ NASA.
  • Only one of the shortlisted astronauts will go on the mission which is supposed to take place “no earlier than October 2024,” according to the information available on NASA website.

  • The mission will take place “no earlier than October 2024,”. The astronauts will have to go to the United States ahead of the mission to train on the specifics of the ISS.
  • “While they have general training for space-fairing, much of their training in India focussed on Gaganyaan modules. They will have to be familiarised with ISS modules and protocols,” the official said.

  • The Axiom-4 mission, which will take the Indian astronauts to the ISS, is the fourth private astronaut mission of NASA and a private US company Axiom Space.
  • The mission is expected to dock with the ISS for fourteen days. At the time when the Axiom-4 mission was announced last year, NASA in a release had said: “The Ax-4 crew members will train with NASA, international partners, and SpaceX for their flight. Axiom Space has contracted SpaceX as launch provider for transportation to and from the space station, and to familiarize the private astronauts with systems, procedures, and emergency preparedness for the Dragon spacecraft.”

‘Ghar Ghar Solar’

  • Tata Power Solar Systems Limited has launched the ‘Ghar Ghar Solar’ initiative in Uttar Pradesh, starting from Varanasi, aimed at providing every home with clean energy through rooftop solar solutions.

  • This initiative promises substantial financial savings and environmental benefits for residents. Residents can avail a maximum subsidy of up to Rs. 1,08,000 on rooftop solar installation, combining Central and State Government subsidies.
  • Tata Power Solar offers state-of-the-art technology with bifacial modules for higher efficiency and durability. Flexible financing options and a quick turnaround time ensure hassle-free adoption of solar power.
  • Installing a 3 kW solar rooftop can save residents up to INR 27,000 annually on electricity bills, with the potential to generate 12 units of electricity daily. Net metering allows for additional savings by feeding excess electricity back into the grid.

  • Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed former batter and World Cup winner Gautam Gambhir as the new head coach of the senior men’s team. BCCI secretary Jay Shah made this announcement through a social media post today. Mr Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as head coach.

  • In Badminton, Indian shuttlers bagged the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Saint-Denis Reunion Open 2024, in Saint-Denis, the capital of the French overseas département of Réunion in the Western Indian Ocean.

  • In Men’s singles, India’s Tharun Mannepalli defeated Yudai Okimoto of Japan in straight sets, 21-15, 21-15, to win his second title of the year. Earlier, he won the Kazakhstan International Challenge.

  • While in women’s singles, World No. 75, India’s Tasnim Mir clinched the title, defeating compatriot Rakshitha Sree, also in straight games 21-15, 21-19. in the final. However, in the men’s doubles final, the Indian duo of Prakash Raj and Gouse Shaik lost to Julien Maio and William Villeger of France, 9-21, 14-21, to settle for a runner-up finish.
