Education Ministry Partners FIFA
- The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with FIFA, is enhancing football access in schools nationwide by distributing 1.1 million footballs, benefiting over 150,000 schools.
- With the goal of significantly increasing football accessibility within schools, the Ministry of Education has launched a transformative initiative with FIFA.
- This partnership involves distributing 1.1 million footballs across the country in stages, benefiting more than 150,000 schools.
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently initiated this effort by distributing 6,848 footballs to 1,260 schools across 17 districts of Odisha under the Footballs for Schools (F4S) program.
- Step toward integrating football-related activities into the education system. The distribution of footballs isn’t limited to Odisha; it also includes several other states such as Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Daman and Diu.
- This multi-state approach highlights the comprehensive nature of the initiative, ensuring its impact is felt across diverse geographical regions. At the core of the program is its commitment to inclusivity, regardless of gender.

First Transwoman TTE
- Sindhu Ganapathy’s appointment as the first transwoman Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) of Southern Railway marks a significant milestone in the journey towards inclusivity and acceptance in the Indian workforce.

Unani Day 2024
- World Unani Day is celebrated annually on February 11, marking the birth anniversary of Hakim Ajmal Khan, a renowned Unani practitioner and visionary who made significant contributions to the field of Unani medicine.
- This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the Unani system of medicine, one of the oldest healthcare systems in the world, which originated in Greece and was further developed in the Middle East and South Asia.
- The celebration of World Unani Day underscores the importance of traditional medicine in contemporary healthcare and its potential to promote health, wellness, and sustainable healthcare solutions globally.
- The Unani system of medicine, also known as Greco-Arab medicine, has its roots in the teachings of Greek physicians such as Hippocrates and Galen.
- It was later enriched by Arab and Persian scholars during the medieval period, notably by the works of Avicenna (Ibn Sina), who significantly contributed to its theoretical and practical knowledge base.
- The system arrived in India around the 12th century and flourished under the patronage of the Mughal Empire, blending with Indian traditional medicine and practices.
- Hakim Ajmal Khan (1868-1927) was a pivotal figure in the history of Unani medicine in India.
- He was not only a practitioner but also a passionate advocate for the integration of Unani with other forms of traditional medicine.

PM Inaugurates Projects Worth Rs. 7300 Crores

Smart Gram Panchayat
- In a significant step towards digital empowerment, the Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Shri Giriraj Singh will inaugurate the pilot project titled ‘Smart Gram Panchayat: Revolution towards Digitization of Gram Panchayat’ at Paprour Gram Panchayat under Barauni Block of Begusarai District in Bihar to extend PM-WANI (Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) Service in Gram Panchayats.
- This path breaking initiative promises to mark a paradigm shift in rural connectivity and catalyze a digital revolution in the heartlands of Bihar.
- Begusarai is poised to lead this digital transformation in Bihar as the first District where all Gram Panchayats will be equipped with Wi-Fi services under the PM–WANI Scheme.
- The pilot project, funded under the revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) implemented by Ministry of Panchayati Raj, aims to extend the Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface (PM-WANI) service to 455 Gram Panchayats across 37 Blocks in the Districts of Begusarai and Rohtas in Bihar for the Financial Year 2023–24.

Strandja Memorial Tournament
- In Boxing, World Championship medallist Amit Panghal and Sachin Siwach won a gold each, while Nikhat Zareen and three other Indians signed off with silver medals at the 75th Strandja Memorial tournament in Bulgaria.
- The 2019 World Championship silver medallist Panghal (51kg) pulled off a dominating 5-0 triumph over Kazakhstan’s Sanzhar Tashkenbay in the men’s flyweight final. Sachin (57kg), out-punched Uzbekistan’s Shakhzod Muzafarov by a 5-0 verdict. However, two-time world champion Zareen (50kg), Arundhati Choudhary (66kg), Barun Singh Shagolshem (48kg) and Rajat (67kg) settled for silver medals after going down in their respective bouts. Panghal had clinched the bronze medal in 2017 while winning back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019.
