International Day for Disaster Reduction

  • The International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was started in 1989, after a call by the United Nations General Assembly.
  • To promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction.
  • Held every 13 October, the day celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of reining in the risks that they face.
  • To mobilize action, the UN agency is raising awareness of the brutal inequality of disasters.
  • It calls for fighting inequality for a resilient future, which is the theme of the 2023 observance.

India-China held 20th Commander Level Meeting

  • The 20th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting was held at Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Indian side on 9th and 10th of this month.
  • The two sides exchanged views in a frank, open, and constructive manner for an early and mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues along the LAC in the Western Sector in accordance with the guidance provided by the national leadership of the two countries.
  • India and China agreed to maintain the momentum of dialogue and negotiations through the relevant military and diplomatic mechanisms.
  • They also committed to maintaining peace and tranquility on the ground in the border areas in the interim.

  • Uttar Pradesh’s decision to honor the Gangetic Dolphin with the title of state aquatic symbol and the launch of the “Meri Ganga Meri Dolphin 2023” campaign stand as resounding evidence of the government’s unwavering dedication to wildlife conservation, environmental sustainability, and the imperative task of increasing awareness about the crucial role of maintaining the purity of our rivers and ponds.

Manikanta H Hoblidhar Set New National Record

  •  The 62nd National Open Athletics Championships 2023 commenced with a dazzling start in Bengaluru, as Manikanta Hoblidhar from Services etched his name into the annals of history by shattering the national record in the men’s 100m category.
  • In the semi-finals of the Men’s 100m event, Manikanta Hoblidhar launched himself from the third lane with extraordinary speed and unwavering determination.
  • With a burst of power, he surged to victory, crossing the finish line in the coveted first place, clocking a remarkable time of 10.23 seconds.
  • In this remarkable feat, Manikanta Hoblidhar outperformed the previous national record of 10.26 seconds, a record held by Amiya Kumar Mallick since April 2016.

NTPC Only Indian PSU In Forbes World Best Employers  

  • India’s largest integrated energy conglomerate, NTPC Limited, has been recognized as one of the “World’s Best Employers 2023” in the Forbes World’s Best Employers list 2023.

India To Host 141st International Olympic Committee

  • India is set to host the 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in Mumbai.
  • The 141st IOC Session will be held from 15 to 17 October in Mumbai, India, with the Opening Ceremony to be held on the 14th.  
  • IOC President Thomas Bach has already reached Mumbai and he will lead the Executive Board meeting.
  • Mr. Bach said, this is an important moment for India as it will offer the country an opportunity to showcase its preparedness to host major global sporting events like the Olympics. He said that this meeting is important for India as this will determine cricket’s chances in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
  • The IOC session, held annually, is the meeting of the members of the International Olympic Committee, and important decisions regarding the sporting event are taken at the meeting. The members and the representatives from various countries discuss matters pertaining to host cities and any changes to the Olympic Charter for the upcoming events at these sessions.

Udangudi Panangarupatti

  • Recently, Udangudi ‘Panangkarupatti’ (palm jaggery/ gur) from Tamil Nadu has received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
  • The palm jaggery preparation procedure in this area is traditional till date without inclusion of any additional modern strategies.
  • Uniqueness:
  • The karupatti prepared from the palm sap from the region around Udangudi in Tiruchendur taluk in Thoothukudi district has some uniqueness.
  • This is due to the presence of red sand dune soil found in the region.
  • This soil holds less groundwater. The moisture content in the atmosphere is less because of the dry climatic condition, which leads to high sucrose content, in turn adding taste.
  • The region’s dry climate is also suitable for storage of karupatti for a longer duration.
  • No chemical additives like Triple super phosphate and phosphoric acid are used in its preparation.

4th Asian Para Games

  • Union Ministers Shri Hardeep S Puri and Shri Anurag Singh Thakur grace send-off ceremony of athletes for 4th Asian Para Games
  • Indian Oil Supports Para Athletes in their quest for glory at the 4th Asian Para Games . In a remarkable feat, India will participate in seventeen disciplines, including five sports — Canoe, Blind Football, Lawn Bowls, Rowing, and Taekwondo.
  • In an unprecedented display of support and encouragement, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) and IndianOil Corporation Limited came together to empower and encourage the contingent of 309 athletes, including 196 male and 113 female athletes for the 4th Asian Para Games to be held at Hangzhou, China, from 22-28 October 2023.
  •  The send-off ceremony was graced by Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and information & Broadcasting, Shri Shrikant Madhav Vaidya, Chairman, IndianOil and senior officials of PCI.

Krish, Trish, and Baltiboy – Bharat Hain Hum”

  • Union Minister Shri Anurag Thakur has launched the trailer of “Krish, Trish, and Baltiboy – Bharat Hain Hum”, an animated series consisting of two seasons, produced by Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Graphiti Studios.
  • The series consists of 52 episodes, 11 minutes each, featuring stories from Indian Freedom struggle from 1500s to 1947. The series is hosted by the iconic animated characters Krish, Trish and Balti boy. The series has been created by the creator duo of Munjal Shroff and Tilakraj Shetty from Graphiti Studios.
  • The series is an effort to educate the youth about the lesser known but significant contributors of the freedom struggle, contributors who were forgotten by the educations system of the past.
  • The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting decided to create a campaign to raise awareness amongst the children of India about our glorious Freedom Struggle and the numerous heroes across the country who made the supreme sacrifice for our country.
