International Yoga Day 2025

  • International Day of Yoga, celebrated every year on 21st June, is more than just a symbolic observance; it is a global movement that promotes physical health, mental peace, and spiritual awareness.
  • In 2025, this internationally celebrated day enters its 11th edition, bringing with it a renewed sense of commitment to both personal well-being and planetary health. idea of dedicating a day to Yoga was proposed by India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 27th September 2014.

  • Recognizing the far-reaching benefits of Yoga, the UNGA officially adopted 21st June as the International Day of Yoga on 11th December 2014. The date was chosen because 21st June is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolizing light, awakening, and consciousness—core values of the Yogic tradition.

  • The official theme for International Yoga Day 2025 is: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” This theme highlights the interconnectedness of human health and the health of the planet. First Locomotive Export To Guinea From Bihar

  • The initiative marks the beginning of a ₹3,000 crore deal between India and Guinea to export 150 locomotives over three years, aimed at powering Guinea’s SimFer Simandou iron ore project—one of Africa’s largest mining projects. The locomotives, manufactured by Indian engineers, incorporate modern technology and world-class safety standards, showcasing India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission on a global platform.

Rashtrapati Tapovan & Rashtrapati Niketan

  • President Droupadi Murmu, who arrived in Dehradun on a three-day visit, inaugurated Rashtrapati Tapovan and Rashtrapati Niketan in Dehradun today on the second day. She also inaugurated public facilities, including the visitor facility centre and the cafeteria.

  • Also laid the foundation stone of Rashtrapati Udyan at Rashtrapati Niketan. On this occasion, a book based on the biodiversity of Rashtrapati Niketan, Tapovan and Rashtrapati Udyan was also released.
  • This book lists more than 300 flora and more than 170 fauna species of Rashtrapati Niketan, Tapovan and the garden, including butterflies, birds and mammals. Rashtrapati Tapovan will be opened to the general public from June 24, and Rashtrapati Niketan from July 1.
  • The President also hosted an At- Home Reception at Rashtrapati Niketan. Earlier, she released a postal stamp in Dehradun to mark 125 years of Raj Bhavan, Nainital, and unveiled a coffee table book. The President also offered prayers at an ancient Shiva temple.

JAIHIND Scheme

  • Delhi University has launched the JAIHIND (Janajati Immersive Holistic Intervention for Novel Development) scheme aimed at equipping Scheduled Tribe (ST) students from across India with basic computer skills and guidance for higher education, particularly focusing on preparing them for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

  • The initiative is designed to support school students from Classes 9 to 12, especially those from remote tribal regions, by addressing their digital and academic barriers to college access.
  • JAIHIND scheme was officially launched on June 18, 2025, with the first batch of 25 ST students from Ukhrul district of Manipur beginning their training at Delhi University. The initiative comes in response to concerns raised since the implementation of CUET as the centralised entrance test for undergraduate admissions in 2022, especially regarding the digital access gap for students from marginalised communities.

Neeraj Chopra Wins Gold

  • India’s javelin star Neeraj Chopra won the men’s javelin throw competition of the Paris Diamond League 2025 at Stade Sébastien Charléty last night. Two-time Olympic medallist Chopra won the title with a best effort of 88.16 meters achieved with his first throw. Germany’s Julian Weber finished second with 87.88 meter throw.

  • Luiz Maurício da Silva of Brazil finished third with a new South American record of 86.62 meters. The 27-year-old Chopra followed up with an 85.10 meter throw in his second attempt and fouled his next three before finishing off with an 82.89 meters.
  • This is the first time in this season that Neeraj has been able to get the better of Julian Weber. At the Doha Diamond League last month, Weber nicked Neeraj with a personal best throw of 91.06 meters with his final attempt of the night. Whereas, the Indian javelin thrower had earlier breached the elusive 90 meter mark with a 90.23 meter throw and reset the Indian national record in Doha.

Para Athletics Championship

  • Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled Logo, Mascot and flags off 100 days to go countdown for New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championship in National Capital. The newly revealed mascot, named Viraaj — a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis — is a tribute to strength, optimism, and resilience, while the logo captures India’s rich heritage, the spirit of para athletics, and the vibrancy of New Delhi as host city.

  • Addressing the Gathering, Ms Gupta said, over 100 countries and more than 2500 athletes are participating in the sporting event. She added that the Government will ensure that this event becomes a landmark for inclusivity and excellence.
  • The 12th edition of World Para Athletics Championships will be the largest ever para athletics event in the country bringing world’s best athletes. The sporting event will be held from 26th September to 5th October at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
