BHISM To Government Of Ukraine

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented four Bharat Health Initiatives for Sahyog Hita and Maitri—BHISHM Cubes—to the Government of Ukraine.
  • The Cubes will help in the expeditious treatment of the injured and contribute to saving precious lives.
  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the Prime Minister for the humanitarian assistance.

  • Each BHISHM Cube consists of medicines and equipment for the first line of care for all kinds of injuries and medical situations. It also includes surgical equipment for a basic operation room that can manage 10 to 15 basic surgeries per day.
  • The Cube has the capacity to handle about 200 cases of diverse nature in emergency situations such as trauma, bleeding, burns, and fractures, among others.
  • It can also generate its own power and oxygen in limited amounts. A team of experts from India has been deployed to provide initial training to the Ukrainian side to operate the Cube. The gesture underscores India’s continued commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

National Medical Register Portal

  • Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda launched the National Medical Register Portal in New Delhi for the registration of all MBBS doctors eligible for registration in India.
  • Portal will be a comprehensive and dynamic database for all allopathic (MBBS) registered doctors in the country. He added that the Prime Minister’s vision is to make India digitally sound, which can happen only if the health ecosystem is also digitally robust.

  • Mr. Nadda mentioned that the National Medical Register is a much-awaited step in this direction, which will strengthen the digital healthcare ecosystem and ensure quality healthcare for the people.
  • He said that the government will also launch a similar register for paramedics and other healthcare professionals.
  • National Medical Commission is mandated under the NMC Act, which states that the Ethics and Medical Registration Board shall maintain a National Register in electronic form, containing the name, address, and all recognised qualifications possessed by a licensed medical practitioner.

World’s Second Largest Diamond

  • A Canada based mining company unearthed a massive 2,492-carat stone at Karowe Diamond Mine in northeastern Botswana yesterday. Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s government described the diamond as the second largest in the world.
  • This is the third very large diamond unearthed at the Karowe mine in recent years. The 1,758-carat stone unearthed in 2019 was previously the largest ever mined in Botswana.

e-magazine, Sapno ki Udaan

  • Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today released an e-magazine, Sapno ki Udaan, on the occasion of India’s first National Space Day.
  • The e-magazine is a mix of poetry, essays, stories, anecdotes, and riddles contributed by students, teachers, and parents from around India.
  •  The Department of School Education and Literacy, in collaboration with NCERT, released this e-magazine to commemorate the 1st anniversary of the landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar South Pole.

  • During the virtual launch of the e-magazine, Mr. Pradhan said that this will fulfill the recommendations of the National Education Policy by making education accessible and equitable, and preparing students for the global challenges of the 21st century. He also said the current theme of the magazine, space, resonates with the vastness of the imagination of children.

Diana Pundole

  • Diana Pundole, a teacher and mother from Pune, has made history as the first Indian woman to win the national championship in the saloon category at the MRF Indian National Car Racing Championship 2024 held in Chennai.
  • Her achievement is especially notable as it comes in a sport traditionally dominated by men, highlighting her determination and skill despite numerous challenges.

FSSAI Orders Remove All Claims A1 & A2 Types Of Milk

  • Food Safety And Standards Authority Of India Asked Food Business Operators And E-commerce FBO’s To Remove All Claims Regarding A1 And A2 Types Of Milk And Milk Products From All Packaging.
  • Food Regulator Added That The A1 And A2 Differentiation Of Milk Is Essentially Linked To A Difference In The Structure Of Protein, And Therefore, Any A2 Claims On Milk Fat Products Are Misleading And Not In Conformance With The Provisions Of The FSS Act 2006 And Its Regulations.

  • A1 and A2 milk are two types of milk that differ in the structure of their beta-casein protein, which is dependent on the breed of cow. A1 milk contains A1 beta-casein or a variant of A1 and A2, while A2 milk contains only A2 beta-casein.
  • A1 beta-casein is found in milk from European breeds like Holstein, Friesian, Ayrshire, and British Shorthorn, while A2 beta-casein is found in milk from breeds native to southern France and the Channel Islands, such as Guernsey, Jersey, Charolais, and Limousin.

India & Denmark

  • Environmental Strategic Partnership between India and Denmark has launched a Smart Laboratory on Clean Rivers (SLCR) with initial funding of Rs 16.8 crore from the Jal Shakti Ministry and an additional Rs 5 crore from Denmark.
  • This collaboration aims to revitalize the Varuna River using advanced technologies and a comprehensive river management plan over a 2-3-year period.

  • SLCR will utilize hydrological models to analyze the river’s water dynamics and develop a holistic river management strategy.
  • This includes real-time monitoring and data visualization tools to enhance water management decisions.
  • A designated stretch of the Varuna River will undergo targeted interventions to improve regional economic and social development while maintaining river health.

  • The final phase of the project focuses on the Hydrogeological Model of the Varuna Basin for Recharge Sites. This component aims to boost the river’s base flow through managed aquifer recharge using advanced geophysical techniques and mathematical modeling.
  • The goal is to identify optimal recharge sites and rates, integrating diverse data sources for a comprehensive river-aquifer flow model. The SLCR represents a unique tripartite initiative, combining the expertise of India and Denmark.
  • It fosters collaboration among government bodies, knowledge institutions, and local communities to develop and implement solutions for clean river water.
  • Varuna River is a minor tributary of the Ganges River in Uttar Pradesh, India. It originates at Phulpur in the Prayagraj district and merges into the Ganges near Sarai Mohana in the Varanasi district.

South Indian Adivasi Knowledge Centre

  • Kaanu, a South Indian Adivasi Knowledge Centre, will be launched at the Tribal Health Resource Centre (THRC) at BR Hills, Karnataka.
  • Kaanu, which means evergreen forest in both Kannada and Soliga language. Aims to be the first ever knowledge centre on South Indian Adivasi past, present and culture: a tree of knowledge.”

  • Kaanu will have three branches: a library, where publications on and by tribal communities of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu can be consulted by interested researchers and the general public;
  • the Kaanu annotated bibliography, with over 1,200 works on historical and contemporary works on the South Indian Adivasi world and a book co-written by South Indian Adivasi and non-Adivasi scholars.
  • “It is the Kaanu library that will be formally inaugurated. Initiative, the brainchild of a collective comprising of leaders and scholars from several South Indian Adivasi communities as well as non-Adivasi researchers having a long association with them,  has its genesis in a writing workshop held at the foothills of BRT, in Muntipalya, says Srinivas.
