India Tops Global Milk Production
- India is ranked first in milk production contributing 25 percent of global milk production.
- Milk production in the country is growing at an annual growth rate of about 6 per cent over the past 9 years whereas world milk production is growing at 2.1 per cent per annum.
- Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh said that the procurement price and sale prices of milk in the country are decided by the cooperative and private dairies based on their cost of production and market forces.
Khelo India
- In the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the government’s flagship sports initiative, Khelo India, emerged as one of the top beneficiaries in the sports ministry’s allocation.
- The program, aimed at fostering grassroots sports, secured 900 crore rupees from the overall sports budget of over 3,442 crore rupees.
- This marks a 20 crore rupees increase from the previous year’s revised allocation of 880 crore rupees.
- Khelo India, which has been pivotal in promoting sports at the grassroots level across India, continues to be a priority for the government as it aims to nurture young talent and enhance sporting infrastructure nationwide.
- Ever since the inaugural Khelo India Youth Games in 2018, the government has continued to add more programmes.
- The sports ministry added Khelo India University Games in 2020, before also launching the Khelo India Winter Games the same year and the Khelo India Para Games in 2023.
- Hundreds of Khelo India State Centres of Excellence have been set up across the country, which aim to provide facilities for athletes with potential. Several Khelo India athletes are currently in India’s Olympic-bound contingent.
National Jal Jeevan Mission
- National Jal Jeevan Mission has achieved a historic milestone providing tap water connections to 15 crore rural households across the country.
- Mission has showcased unprecedented speed and scale increasing rural tap connection coverage from three crore in 2019 to 15 crore in a short span of five years.
- The mission was announced in 2019, with the aim to provide tap water supply to every rural home by 2024.
- In a post on social media post, Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil said, this milestone has not only given a gift of pure water to the countrymen but also improved their quality of life.
- As on date, eight States and three Union Territories have achieved 100 per cent coverage. This includes Goa, Telangana, Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
World’s Most Powerful Passports 2024
- Singapore has reclaimed its title as the world’s most powerful passport, offering visa-free access to a record 195 global destinations according to the Henley Passport Index. India ranks 82nd, allowing visa-free entry to 58 countries.
- Singapore: Visa-free access to 195 destinations, ranking first.
- Joint Second: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, each with visa-free access to 192 destinations.
- Joint Third: Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden, each with 191 destinations.
- Fourth Place: UK, Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland with 190 destinations.
- Eighth Place: US with 186 destinations, continuing its decade-long slide.
- India’s Position 82nd Spot: India, tied with Senegal and Tajikistan, allows visa-free entry to 58 countries.
Climate Finance Action Fund
- Azerbaijan, hosting COP29 from November 11 to 22 this year, has announced the creation of a Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF).
- This fund will be raised from fossil fuel producers to support green projects in developing countries and help member nations meet the 1.5°C temperature target.
- CFAF aims to mobilize both public and private sectors, with Azerbaijan as the founding contributor.
- It plans to attract $1 billion and secure at least 10 contributing countries. 50% of CFAF will be used for climate projects, including clean energy technology and climate resilience.
- The remaining 50% will support nations in meeting their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
- Additionally, 20% of revenues will fund a Rapid Response Funding Facility (2R2F) for disaster relief.
- The fund will be headquartered in Baku, with an independent audit committee providing quarterly reports. A working group of international financial experts will help develop the fund’s management and funding mechanisms.
Green Charcoal Plant In Haryana
- Municipal Corporations of Gurugram and Faridabad are all set to establish two waste-to-charcoal plants, also known as green coal plants, in the two districts at a cost of ₹500 crore each.
- They added that these plants would convert 1,500 tonne of waste daily into charcoal using indigenous technology.
- A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, and the Municipal Corporations of Gurugram and Faridabad.
- “NTPC will soon take possession of the land and start setting up the plants, which are expected to be completed in about 30 months. These plants will be based entirely on indigenous technology,” CM Saini said.
- The establishment of these plants aims to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat campaign, making Gurugram and Faridabad garbage-free, said Saini.
- “This torrefied charcoal will be used in power generation plants, reducing the use of mineral coal. He stated that this effort will play a crucial role in significantly enhancing urban cleanliness and promoting environmental sustainability in Gurugram and Faridabad,” .

Paris Olympics 2024
- Paris Olympics 2024, India’s journey will begin today, a day before the Opening Ceremony. Archers Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur, and B. Dhiraj, along with Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav, will compete in the individual ranking round.
- Indian contingent aims to break the Olympics medal drought in archery.
- After the ranking rounds, the competition will shift to a matchplay phase. India will compete in all five archery events in Paris: men’s and women’s teams, individual, and mixed categories.
- In total, 128 athletes have qualified for archery at the Paris games, 64 women and 64 men. The ranking rounds rules provide all qualifiers with 72 arrows, with a target placed 70 metres away.
