Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release first series of eleven volumes of Collected Works of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya in New Delhi.
  • The programme will be organised on the occasion of the 162nd birth anniversary of Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya.
  • In Amrit Kaal, it has been the Prime Minister’s vision to bestow fitting recognition to freedom fighters who have contributed immensely to the service of the Nation.

  • The bilingual (English and Hindi) work in eleven volumes, spread across about four thousand pages, is a collection of the writings and speeches of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, collected from every nook and corner of the country.
  • These volumes comprise his unpublished letters, articles, and speeches, including memorandums, the editorial content of the Hindi weekly ‘Abhyudaya’ started by him in 1907, statements given before the Royal Commission, and a diary written by him.
  • The work of researching and compiling the documents written and spoken by Madan Mohan Malaviya was undertaken by the Mahamana Malaviya Mission, an institution devoted to propagating the ideals and values of Madan Mohan Malviya.

Good Governance Day

  • Good Governance Day will be celebrated on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • The day is celebrated on the 25th of December every year to foster awareness among the people of the country about accountability in Governance and Government.
  • The genesis of Good Governance Day can be traced back to December 23, 2014, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was awarded the Bharat Ratna, along with Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya (posthumously).
  • In recognition of this prestigious honor, the Narendra Modi-led government declared December 25 as Good Governance Day, aiming to celebrate Vajpayee’s enduring legacy.

‘Paat Mitro’ App

  • The Ministry of Textiles, in its continuous efforts to support and empower jute farmers, has introduced the “Paat-Mitro” mobile application.
  • Developed by The Jute Corporation of India Limited (JCI), this application is a significant step towards providing essential information about Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and agronomy to jute farmers.

  • The launch took place during the ‘Jute Symposium,’ with Smt. Rachna Shah, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, inaugurating the application, which is available in six languages.
  • The primary objective of the Paat-Mitro application is to empower jute farmers by offering crucial information about Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and agronomic practices.
  • All functionalities of the application are provided to users free of charge, making it easily accessible to jute farmers.
  • Apart from MSP and agronomic practices, the application includes information on Jute Gradation Parameters, Farmer-centric schemes like ‘Jute-ICARE,’ weather forecasts, JCI’s Purchase Centres’ locations, and Procurement Policies.
  • Payment Tracking: Farmers can track the status of payments for the raw jute they sell to JCI under the MSP Operation.
  • Incorporating the latest technology, the application includes a Chatbot to address farmers’ queries and provide real-time assistance.

Indian Ocean Naval Symposium

  • The 8th edition of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Conclave of Chiefs (CoC) concluded in Bangkok, Thailand.
  • The conclave organized by Royal Thai Navy began on the 19th of this month. Chiefs of Navies or Senior Delegates from 27 Members or Observer countries participated in the event.
  • Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, attended the event with a three-member Indian Naval delegation.

  • During the Conclave of Chiefs, Thailand assumed the duties of Chair of IONS, and the Work Plan for the next two years was finalized.
  • As a first, the Flag designed by India was selected as the IONS Flag. India also took over as the co-chair of IONS Working Groups on Maritime Security and HADR for the forthcoming cycle.

Amnesty To More Than 1000 Convicts

  • Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe granted amnesty to more than a thousand convicts, and they were released from jails across the country to mark Christmas.
  • Among those freed today were people jailed for not being able to pay outstanding fines.

  • The latest pardon came after police arrested nearly 15,000 people during a weeklong military-backed anti-narcotics drive that was halted on the eve of Christmas.
  • A police statement said 13,666 suspects were arrested while nearly 1,100 addicts were detained and sent for compulsory rehabilitation at a military-run facility.
