PM MITRA Parks
- Government has approved setting up of 7 (Seven) PM Mega Integrated Textile Region. Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks in Greenfield/Brownfield sites (including a Greenfield project in Virudhanagar Tamil Nadu) with world class infrastructure including plug and play facility with an outlay of Rs. 4,445 cr for a period of seven years upto 2027-28.
- It is envisaged that each park when completed will generate 1 lakh direct and 2 lakh indirect employments.
- In order to implement the PM MITRA Scheme in Virudhnagar, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) i.e. ‘PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel Park, Tamil Nadu Limited’ has been incorporated with Government of Tamil Nadu holding 51% stake in the SPV and remaining 49% being held by the Government of India.
- The process of obtaining Environmental Clearance as well as layout approval from Directorate of Town and Country Planning has been completed.
- The Process of providing Water and Power supply up till the park gate is in progress. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 1200 cr for investment in the park have been signed so far.
Centre Clears Urban Flood Management
- To fulfill Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of disaster resilient India, Ministry of Home Affairs under the guidance of Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah has taken several initiatives to ensure effective management of disasters in the country.
- A number of steps have been taken to prevent any extensive loss to life and property during disasters by strengthening disaster risk reduction system in India.
- The High-Level Committee approved six project proposals in the states of Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, West Bengal and Maharashtra at a total cost of Rs. 2514.36 crore for Urban Flood Management in six metro cities, namely Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune.
- Earlier, HLC, , had approved the Project proposal for integrated solutions for flood management for the state of Tamil Nadu in Chennai city at a cost of Rs. 561.29 crore.
- HLC also approved three project proposals under the scheme for “Expansion and Modernization of Fire Services in the states” for the Assam, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu of a total outlay of Rs. 810.64 crore.
- Central Government has allocated a total amount of Rs. 5000 crore under National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) for this scheme, and had already approved the proposals of 11 states at a total outlay of Rs. 1691.43 crore.
- In addition, High-Level Committee also approved a project proposal for GLOF risk mitigation for the states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh at a total outlay of Rs. 150 crore. The GLOF Risk Mitigation Project will provide necessary impetus to these four states in taking necessary mitigation measures to address GLOF risks.
UK And India
- Governments of India and the UK just started the Technology Security Initiative (TSI). The goal is to improve their strategic relationship as technology becomes more important for national security and economic growth.
- TSI shows that both the UK and India understand how important technology is for improving national security and boosting the economy.
- The India-UK Roadmap 2030 lists a number of areas where leaders from both countries want to work together, including technology. Under the TSI, a two-way system will be set up, with the National Security Advisors (NSAs) of both countries in charge.
- This system will handle trade problems involving important and new technologies, allowing for a full discussion on the most important areas for cooperation.
- TSI will focus on making it easier for people to work together in several areas, including.
- Telecoms: Creating a Future Telecoms Partnership to study Open RAN systems and improve telecom security.
- Critical Minerals: Creating a community for critical minerals to make it easier for people to share data and come up with new ideas in the supply chain.
- Semiconductors: Making it easier for businesses and universities to work together on chip design and advanced production.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI): Working together to make sure that AI is used in an ethical and responsible way by having multilateral talks.
- Quantum Technologies: Working together on projects that use quantum computing in a variety of fields.
- Biotechnology and HealthTech: Making it easier for biotechnology and healthtech companies to work together on genomics, smart biosensors, and precise medicine that is ethical.
- Advanced Materials: Pay attention to new ideas and rules in materials science, especially nanotechnology.
India Advances 6G Technology Development
- India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said in July 2024 that it wanted to improve 6G technology that was already in the country.
- The project aims to create “Cell-Free” 6G Access Points by working with IIT Roorkee and IIT Mandi. This will help shape the future of mobile communication.
- Working together with C-DOT and top Indian Institutes of Technology is very important for developing 6G technology.
- The main goal of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to build access points, which are necessary for setting up 6G networks.
- The 6G project’s goals are to: Create entry points for radio access networks of the future, Contribute to making 6G technologies more uniform, Make things be sold and create intellectual property rights (IPRs), Prepare a skilled workforce for the changing business world. The goal for 6G connectivity, which is expected to be available around 2030, is speeds of more than 100 Gbps.
- Terahertz frequencies will be used, allowing for very low delay of just 1 millisecond.
- Holographic contact and advanced IoT networks are two important uses. 6G could use network control that is driven by AI to work better.
- It could be used for new things, like remote surgeries and realistic augmented reality. 6G is also expected to improve connection around the world, filling in broadband gaps in rural areas. Sustainable infrastructure that has less of an effect on the environment is the subject of research.
What Is ODF Plus
- India now has 547,283 towns that are Open Defecation Free Plus (ODF Plus). This was announced by the Jal Shakti Ministry. This project shows that the government is serious about making sanitation and waste management better.
- ODF Plus is a classification that supports the effort to end open defecation by focusing on long-lasting sanitation methods and efficient waste management systems.
- This makes towns work harder to keep things clean and smartly handle trash. Categories of ODF Plus Villages Aspiring Villages: These meet the basic requirements for solid waste management.
- Rising Villages: These have both solid and liquid waste management systems in place.
- Model Villages: Exceeding the criteria of the previous categories, Model villages ensure visual cleanliness and effective waste management while also promoting information and education on sanitation.

- Assam: 25,215 villages, including a significant number of Model villages.
- Bihar: 30,225 ODF Plus villages, with a focus on Model categorisation.
- Madhya Pradesh: 49,742 ODF Plus villages, leading in Model classifications.
- Uttar Pradesh: 93,872 ODF Plus villages, with a diverse range of categories.
- Rajasthan: 42,387 villages, showing strong progress in the Model category.
- Gujarat: 17,719 villages achieving ODF Plus status.
- About Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus : Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus extends the ODF initiative by promoting sanitation and hygiene, incorporating solid waste management. It aims to sustain ODF status through community engagement and education.
