Nadaprabhu Kempegowda

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Nadaprabhu Kempegowda on his birth anniversary.
  • In a social media post, Mr. Modi said that he was a visionary known for his foresight and administrative skills.

  • He said that Nadaprabhu Kempegowda was a pioneer in boosting economic well-being, agriculture, irrigation, and more.
  • Kempe Gowda I locally venerated as Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda, or commonly known as Kempe Gowda, was a governor under the Vijayanagara Empire in early-modern India.
  • He is famous for the development of Bangalore Town in the 16th century. Kempegowda erected many Kannada inscriptions across the region.

New Schemes On World MSME Day

  • Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Jitan Ram Manjhi, launched two new schemes on World MSME Day in New Delhi.
  • The MSME TEAM Initiative aims to facilitate five lakh micro and small enterprises for Open Network for Digital Commerce.

  • Meanwhile, the Yashasvini campaign focuses on mass awareness to formalize women-owned informal micro enterprises and provide necessary support and assistance.
  • Addressing the Udyami Bharat event, Mr. Manjhi emphasized the importance of inclusive and focused efforts, particularly in rural and remote areas. He highlighted that legal reforms in the MSME sector, as part of ongoing government reforms, will act as a catalyst for growth.
  • Mr. Manjhi stressed that development for individuals from the most economically disadvantaged backgrounds is contingent upon fostering entrepreneurship.

Film City In Greater Noida

  • In Uttar Pradesh, the state government signed an agreement to develop a film city in Greater Noida.
  • The agreement was signed between the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and Bebu Project LLP, a company owned by notable film producer Bonnie Kapoor and Ashish Bhootani.
  • This ambitious project, with an estimated cost of 1,510 crore rupees, is planned to be completed within the next eight years.

Ladakh Achieves Full Functional Literacy

  • Union Ministry of Education, the Union Territory of Ladakh has achieved full functional literacy under the ULLAS-Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram. Ladakh now boasts over 97 percent literacy.

  • A centrally sponsored scheme implemented from 2022-23 to 2026-27, ULLAS (Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society) aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, focusing on adult education and lifelong learning.
  • Beneficiaries: Over 77 lakh people have benefitted nationwide. The ULLAS Mobile App has enrolled 1.29 crore learners and 35 lakh volunteer teachers.
  • Scheme Outlay: The total outlay is Rs.1037.90 crore, with the Government of India contributing Rs.700 crore and the states contributing Rs.337.90 crore.
  • Aim and Target: Targets non-literates aged 15 years and above in all States/UTs. The goal is to reach five crore learners, or one crore learners per year.
  • Implementation: Conducted online through the ULLAS app with volunteer teachers.

Sustainability- Linked Bonds

  • Mindspace Business Parks REIT, the owner and developer of quality Grade A office portfolio, has announced its ₹650 crore Sustainability Linked Bond issuance placed with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
  • The coupon of the bond is linked to Mindspace’s commitment to achieve certain ESG targets towards building a greener eco-system.

  • Mindspace REIT has undertaken certain ESG targets critical to its operations. These include reduction in GHG emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3), increasing the share of green certified area for existing buildings (under operations and maintenance), and reduction in energy intensity.
  • We are thrilled to announce another significant milestone in our sustainability journey as we become the first Indian REIT to issue sustainability linked bonds.
  • International Finance Corporation fully subscribed to this issuance. This follows our maiden green bond issue in March 2023,” said Ramesh Nair, CEO, Mindspace Business Parks REIT.
  • The coupon of these bonds is fixed in nature, and shall be stepped down, in a staggered manner, based on achievement of the set targets. These bonds are issued for a tenure of 7 years.

‘Museum of Temples’

  • Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved Tata Sons’ proposal to build a ‘museum of temples’ in Ayodhya, a project worth Rs 650 crore to be funded through Tata’s corporate social responsibility fund.
  • Additionally, the state cabinet has also sanctioned Rs 100 crore for further development works in Ayodhya and endorsed the initiation of helicopter services in Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Kapilvastu. 
  • Aims to highlight the history and architecture of India’s renowned temples and may feature a light-and-sound show.
  • The tourism department will provide land for the museum on a 90-year lease for a nominal fee of Re 1.

  • These comprehensive projects aim to boost tourism, improve infrastructure, and enhance the historical and cultural significance of Ayodhya and other key locations in Uttar Pradesh.
  • In addition to the museum, the project includes Rs 100 crore in development works proposed by Tata Sons to further enhance Ayodhya’s infrastructure and tourist appeal.
  • The cabinet also decided to transform three dormant heritage buildings into tourist attractions. The selected sites are Kothi Roshan Dulha in Lucknow, Barsana Jal Mahal in Mathura, and Shukla Talab (pond) in Kanpur.

Haryana’s Kiran Pahal

  • Haryana’s Kiran Pahal qualified for Paris Olympics, clocking 50.92 seconds in the semifinals of women’s 400m at the National Inter-state Athletics Championships in Panchkula.

  • Pahal, 24, became the second fastest women’s 400m runner in Indian history, behind Hima Das (50.79 seconds) and secured her spot at the Paris Games after finishing within the automatic standard of 50.95 seconds for the Olympics.
  • She finished ahead of Devy Aniba Zala of Gujarat, who was a distant second with a timing of 53.44, while Kerala’s Sneha K came third by clocking 53.51.
