  • The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) took a significant step on November 17, 2015, by declaring September 28 as the International Day for Universal Access to Information.
  • Held annually on September 28, this day emphasizes the significance of an informed citizenry and highlights the theme of the online space’s pivotal role in ensuring access to information.

World Maritime Day

  • World Maritime Day is celebrated on the last Thursday of every September, on September 28 this year, to honor the tireless work of the international maritime industry workers.
  • This year’s World Maritime Theme is “MARPOL at 50 – Our commitment goes on”. The theme reflects the organization’s long history of protecting the environment from the impact of shipping via a robust regulatory framework and emphasizes its ongoing commitment to this important work.

India-US 2 plus 2 Intersessional Dialogue

  • India-US 2 plus 2 Intersessional Dialogue was held in Washington.
  • Underscoring transformative momentum in India-US relationship, the two countries held discussions on opportunities to further strengthen interoperability and logistics cooperation.
  • The sides also discussed combined maritime engagements in the Indian Ocean Region, as well as expanded cooperation in the space and cyber domains, Pentagon said.
  • The Indian delegation was led by Additional Secretary in External Affairs Ministry Vani Rao and Joint Secretary in the Defence Ministry Vishwesh Negi.

Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath

  • The Ayush Ministry will observe “Ek Tareekh Ek Ghanta Ek Saath” under the aegis of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign.
  • As per the Ministry, more than 200 events will be organised across the country to mark the day.
  • The National Commission of Indian System of Medicine and the National Commission for Homoeopathy with more than 750 colleges will also participate in the event.

RBI Cancels Licence Of The Kapol Co-operative Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken a significant action by revoking the license of The Kapol Co-operative Bank Limited, a cooperative bank based in Mumbai.
  • The primary reason behind this decision stems from concerns about the bank’s insufficient capital and its uncertain prospects for generating earnings, which have cast doubt on its ability to meet its obligations to depositors.
  • Alongside the license cancellation, the RBI has called upon the Additional Secretary & Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Ministry of Cooperation, to issue an order for the bank’s winding-up process.
  • Additionally, a liquidator will be appointed to oversee and manage the bank’s liquidation, marking the commencement of the bank’s dissolution and the subsequent distribution of its assets.

  • India’s Sift Kaur Samra won gold in the women’s 50m Rifle 3-P individual event at the Asian Games 2023.
