Highest Ever Allocation Made Under MGNREGS, During Financial Year 2020-2021

  • A provision of Rs. 1,01,500 crores have been made under MGNREGS. It is the highest ever provision of funds under the programme.
  • A sum of Rs. 31,493 crores have already been released in 2020-2021, which is more than 50% of the budget estimate of the current Financial Year.
  • So far and work has been offered to 6.69 crore persons. Avg. number of persons to whom work offered in May 2020 has been 2.51 crore per day, which is 73% higher than last year.
  • A sustained focus is on taking up works related to water conservation and irrigation, plantation, horticulture, and Individual Beneficiary works for livelihood promotion.

IAF Inducts Indigenous Airborne Rescue Pod for Isolated Transportation (ARPIT)

  • This pod will be utilised for evacuation of critical patients with infectious diseases including COVID-19 from high altitude area, isolated and remote places.
  • This indigenously designed system has been developed at a cost of Rs Sixty Thousand only, which is very less as compared to the imported systems costing up to Rs Sixty Lakh.
  • The system has been developed as a lightweight isolation system made from aviation certified material & has a transparent and durable cast Perspex for enhanced patient visibility.
  • The isolation system caters for suitable number of air exchanges, integration of medical monitoring instruments, and ventilation to an intubated patient.
  • In addition, it generates high constant negative pressure in the isolation chamber for prevention of infection risk to aircrew.
  • The ARPIT utilises High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) H-13 class filters and supports invasive ventilation using Transport Ventilator.

Environmental Performance Index 2020, Released by Yale University

  • It is a biennial index that ranks 180 countries across the world.
  • India ranked 168 and improved from 177 in 2018.
  • Denmark Ranked 1.
  • Using 32 performance indicators across 11 issue categories, the EPI ranks 180 countries on environmental health and ecosystem vitality.

Economy To Contract 3.2% In FY21 Says World Bank

  • The World Bank on Monday said that the Indian economy will contract by 3.2% in the financial year of 2020-’21 because of the lockdown to control the coronavirus pandemic.
  • The bank had in January lowered its projection for India’s economic growth from 6% to 5% in 2019-’20 fiscal year but said it would recover to 5.8% in the following year.
  • The World Bank said that the global economy will witness the worst depression since the Second World War.
  • The World Bank said in its report. “The global economy will shrink by 5.2% this year”.
