INS Sahyadri And Ins Kolkata To Jakarta, Indonesia 

  • Two frontline Indian Naval ships INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata, mission deployed in South-Eastern IOR, arrived in Jakarta on 17 July 2023. The ships were accorded a warm welcome by the Indonesian Navy.
  • During the port call, personnel from Indian and Indonesian navies will engage in a wide range of professional interactions, joint yoga sessions, sports fixtures and cross-deck visits, aimed at strengthening mutual cooperation and understanding between the two navies.
  • INS Sahyadri is the third indigenously designed and built Project-17 class stealth frigate and INS Kolkata is the first indigenously designed and built stealth destroyer of the Project-15A class. Both the ships have been built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai.

Indian Army Launches All Women Tri-services Motorcycle Rally          

  • To commemorate 24 years of victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999 and to highlight the indomitable spirit of women, Indian Army launched a Tri-Services ‘Nari Sashaktikaran Women Motorcycle Rally’ from National War Memorial, Delhi to Kargil War Memorial, Dras (Ladakh).
  • The all-women Motorcycle Rally was Flagged Off by the Chief of the Army Staff, General Manoj Pande from the National War Memorial, New Delhi on 18 Jul 23.
  • The 25-member strong tri-services team includes two Veer Naris, one of whom is a serving officer, 10 serving Indian Army Women officers, one woman officer each from the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, three women soldiers of the Indian Army and eight Armed Forces spouses.

Delivery Of First MCA Barge, LSAM 7                    

  • Contract for construction of 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge was concluded with M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, an MSME, in consonance with “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives of the GOI. The First Barge of the series LSAM 7 has been delivered to Indian Navy on 18 Jul 23 in the presence of Cmde Iftekhar Alam, Commanding Officer, INS Tunir.
  • The Barge has been built under the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) with a service life of 30 years. With all major/ auxiliary equipment sourced from indigenous manufacturers, the Barge is the proud flag bearer of the “Make in India” initiative of the Ministry of Defence.
  • Induction of MCA Barges will provide impetus to the Operational commitments of IN by facilitating Transportation, Embarkation and Disembarkation of articles/ammunition to IN Ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.

Rajnath Singh & His Argentine Counterpart Mr Jorge Enrique Taiana Hold Talks      

  • Rajnath Singh held talks with the visiting Minister of Defence of the Argentine Republic Mr Jorge Enrique Taiana in New Delhi on July 18, 2023. Both Ministers discussed the ongoing defence cooperation initiatives, including measures to enhance defence industrial partnership.
  • The Argentine Defence Minister visited BrahMos Aerospace and is scheduled to interact with leading think tanks in Delhi. He will also travel to Bengaluru and visit the HAL facilities and separately interact with the defence start-ups in an event organised by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX).
  • India-Argentina relations were elevated to the level of Strategic Partnership in 2019. An MoU on defence cooperation has been in force since 2019 while both sides are engaged to conclude further instruments to deepen the engagement.

Asian Athletics Championships 2023

  • Indian athletes won a total of 27 medals – six gold, 12 silver and 9 bronze – at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023, which was held at the Suphachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, from July 12 to 16.
  • In the overall Asian Athletics Championships 2023 medals table, India finished third, behind Japan and the People’s Republic of China. Japan won 37 medals, including 16 golds, while China bagged 22 medals, including eight golds.
  • Men’s shot putter Tajinderpal Singh Toor, women’s hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, triple jumper Abdulla Aboobacker, women’s steeplechaser Parul Chaudhary, men’s 1500m runner Ajay Kumar Saroj and the mixed 4x400m relay team of Rajesh Ramesh, Aishwarya Kailash Mishra, Amoj Jacob and Subha Venkatesan accounted for India’s six gold medals at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023 in Bangkok.
