Procurement of 5-meter Short Span Bridges                          

  • On path to achieve Aatmanirbharta in Defence Sector, Indian Army has signed a contract with Larsen Toubro for procurement of 5-meter Short Span Bridges. The state of the art mechanically launched bridging system will enhance mobility of mechanised columns over obstacles in short time frame & strengthen the operational capability of Indian Army.
  • The mechanically launched bridging system is a cutting-edge solution that addresses the need for rapid and efficient maneuverability of mechanized units over various obstacles. The new bridges are engineered to be launched and retrieved quickly, significantly reducing the time required for construction compared to traditional bridging methods. This advancement in bridging technology will greatly enhance the Indian Army’s operational efficiency.
  • The modular design of these bridges offers multiple advantages over existing bridging systems. With increased span capabilities and the ability to be mechanically launched, these bridges will provide the Indian Army with a strategic advantage during rapid deployment scenarios. The bridges’ efficient design is a testament to India’s technological progress in military equipment development.

INS Sunayna Enters Durban, South Africa                              

  • INS Sunayna entered port of Durban, South Africa on 21 Aug 23. The ship undertook passage exercise with South African Navy Ship SAS King Sekhukhune I off Durban. Post exchange of pleasantries at sea, the ship entered Durban harbour.
  • The visit apart from commemorating 30 years of diplomatic partnership between India and South Africa is aimed at enhancing interoperability, jointness and mutual cooperation between both Indian Navy and South Africa Navy.
  • During the port call, the two navies will share best practices and experiences through professional interactions, subject matter expert exchanges and cross deck visits, additionally social interactions with senior military and civil dignitaries are also planned.

Inauguration of 600 Residential Accommodation At Naval Base Karwar         

  • Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff visited Naval Base Karwar on 21 Aug 23. During the visit, CNS inaugurated two residential buildings comprising 600 flats at Amadhalli and Arga Naval Base each in the presence of large number of families of naval personnel and defence civilians.
  • The 10 residential towers have been provisioned with modern amenities, improved interiors, landscaping and external services in compliance with IGBC Gold Rating. These infrastructure developments are part of ongoing Phase IIA of Project Seabird which will house around 10,000 uniformed and civilian personnel with families.
  • The ongoing construction has created numerous direct and indirect jobs. The project aligns with the ‘AatmaNirbharBharat’ initiative of Govt of India, sourcing over 90% of material domestically.
  • The CNS praised the Project Seabird effort in the creation of high-quality defence infrastructure and urged expeditious completion of remaining facilities.

ICG Signs MoU with Philippines Coast Guard                    

  • In a significant step towards bolstering the bilateral cooperation between India and Philippines, Indian Coast Guard has signed a MoU with Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on enhanced maritime cooperation.
  • The MoU inked today seeks to enhance the professional linkage between the two Coast Guards in the domain of Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE), Maritime Search & Rescue (M-SAR) and Marine Pollution Response (MPR).
  • The implementation of this MoU will enhance bilateral maritime cooperation between the two nations for ensuring safe, secure and clean seas in the region.

CDS, Top Tri-services Military Commanders Meet To Discuss Maritime Theatre Command                   

  • Working towards the creation of three new Theatre Commands, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday began deliberations with top Military Commanders from the three services about nuances of Maritime Theatre Command and the related issues in the maritime domain.
  • ​The meeting of the Chief of Defence Staff with the Commands deployed in the peninsular and Island territories of the country comes a few weeks after he had held a similar meeting with Military Commanders responsible for securing the borders with China.
  • The Department of Military Affairs has been mulling over multiple issues including the one that whether the heads of these new formations should be three-star generals or four-star ones.

South Korean Prez Looking Forward To First India Visit

  • South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is looking forward to his visit to India to participate in the G20 Summit in September and the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said South Korea’s Foreign Minister Park Jin.
  • Foreign Minister Park mentioned that President Yoon is looking forward to his first visit to India to participate in the G20 Summit in September and the bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi.
  • Both agreed that Critical and Emerging Technologies is an area where both countries can enhance collaborations.
  • Deputy NSA Misri is in Seoul for the Fourth India- RoK Strategic Dialogue at the Deputy NSA- level.
