Indian Navy Receives First-ever Fully Indigenous AK-630 Gun Ammo
- In a major boost for achieving indigenisation in the armed forces, the Indian Navy on Friday received its first-ever fully Made in India 30mm ammunition for AK-630 guns fitted on warships.
- Speaking on the occasion, Vice Admiral Ghormade said, “This a major achievement for the country that private industry has developed fully indigenous ammunition. It has been done in 12 months and all components are indigenous.”
- With the collaborative approach, the Indian Navy has been able to successfully develop an alternate source of supply for 30mm ammunition, Navy officials added.
- The AK-630 is a Soviet and Russian fully automatic naval, rotary cannon, close-in weapon system. The “630” designation refers to the weapon’s six gun barrels and their 30 mm calibre.
- The system is mounted in an enclosed automatic turret and directed by MR-123 radar and television detection and tracking. The weapon’s primary purpose is defense against aircraft and helicopters. Effectiveness against anti-ship missiles and other precision-guided weapons is limited due to the limitations of the radar and aiming system and due to the dispersion of a short-barreled gun.
For Mountain Warfare Along China Border, Indian Army Looking At Developing ‘Zorawar’ Light Tanks
- With an aim to prepare for tank warfare in the mountainous borders with China, the Indian Army has issued specifications for its future light tank which has been named ‘Zorawar’.
- The tank has been named after the legendary erstwhile Dogra Army general who led multiple successful victories in Tibet which is now controlled by the Chinese Army.
- The Indian Army had to induct a considerable number of T-72 and T-90 tanks in operational areas, gaining tactical surprise over the adversary and thereby forcing the adversary on a back foot.
- The sources said that the current threat scenario and the contours of the likely future wars have thrown up new challenges for which the Indian Army has to be prepared.
- The equipment profile of tanks in the Indian Army must have the versatility and flexibility of medium and light platforms.
Indian Army Inducts Swarm Drones Systems
- The Indian Army is all set to use drones in the modern warfare ecosystem. The swarm drone’s system has now been inducted into the mechanised forces to provide an edge in meeting future security challenges. “
- To induct this niche technology, the Army has procured swarm drones from two Indian startup companies. In addition, the Army has also initiated a Make-II case, Autonomous Surveillance and Armed Drone Swarm (A-SADS) which includes a number of improvements and also a version for High Altitude Area”.
- Swarm drones consist of a number of drones controlled from same station and can carry a variety of payloads in a single mission, thus capable of overwhelming enemy defences by undertaking collaborative attack.
- The swarm drone system consists of a number of aerial vehicles which are Artificial Intelligence enabled and capable of communicating with the control station as well as among themselves. Artificial Intelligence based Swarming algorithms enable the swarm drones to automatically distribute the tasks among themselves, navigate to the area of interest, ensure collision avoidance during movement to the target area and carryout search of the area.
Nepal Urges India To Suspend Recruitment Of Gorkha Soldiers Under Agnipath Scheme
