The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) performed a daring medical Mid-sea Evacuation of a Chinese individual from a Panama-registered research vessel, MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2, roughly 200 kilometres in the Arabian Sea off Mumbai on the intervening night of August 16-17.
Indian Coast Guard Carries Out Daring Mid-sea Evacuation
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai received word that one of the crew members onboard the research vessel, Yin Weigyang, suffered a cardiac arrest and required immediate medical assistance. Communication was instantly established with the vessel, which was en route from China to the UAE, and essential telemedicine guidance was delivered.
The patient was evacuated by CG DHRUV MK-III after considering the best available options for rapid evacuation and subsequent medical management. He was eventually transferred to the vessel’s agency for further medical attention.
”The rapid action done by CG ALH and CGAS Daman during the dark hours facilitated the saving of a valuable life at sea, underlining the Indian Coast Guard’s devotion to the motto: We Protect,” the ICG said in a press release.

The Chinese embassy lauded the Indian Coast Guard for successfully conducting the medical evacuation of a Chinese national from a Panama-flagged research vessel, MV Dong Fang Kan Tan No 2, around 200 Km in the Arabian Sea off Mumbai on the intervening night of August 16 and 17. The evacuation was carried out amidst challenging weather conditions and dark night.
