Defence Acquisition Council Approves ₹1.05 Lakh Crore in Capital Acquisition Proposals for Indian Armed Forces

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has granted Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for ten capital acquisition proposals, totaling over ₹1.05 lakh crore. This significant clearance, falling under the ‘Buy (Indian–IDDM)’ category, marks a pivotal advancement in indigenous defence manufacturing, aligned with the Make in India initiative.

The Ministry of Defence highlighted that the sanctioned proposals encompass a diverse range of systems, including Armoured Recovery Vehicles, Electronic Warfare Systems, and Integrated Common Inventory Management Systems tailored for the Tri-Services. Additionally, the acquisition of advanced Surface-to-Air Missiles aims to bolster the mobility, air defence capabilities, and logistical coordination of the Indian Armed Forces.

Focusing on the Indian Navy, the DAC has approved the procurement of critical items such as Moored Mines, Mine Counter Measure Vessels, Super Rapid Gun Mounts, and Submersible Autonomous Vessels. These systems are designed to significantly enhance maritime safety and address underwater threats, ensuring the protection of both naval and commercial vessels.

The Ministry reiterated that all the sanctioned projects fall under the Buy (Indian–IDDM) category, which emphasizes maximum participation from Indian vendors. This initiative seeks to enhance self-reliance in defence manufacturing, resonating with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Officials pointed out that these cleared projects are not merely strategic necessities; they are also expected to foster job creation and technological advancements within the domestic defence sector. The approval of these acquisitions signals a robust commitment to bolstering India’s defence capabilities while promoting local industry growth.
