Military Nursing Service Celebrates 98th Raising Day
- MNS celebrated its 98th Raising Day on Oct 1, 2023. As one of the oldest and most distinguished all-women services in the Armed Forces, the Service holds more than 5,000 officers posted at various hospitals of the Armed Forces.
- To commemorate the 98th anniversary, the serving and retired officers led by Addl DGMNS Maj Gen I Delos Flora paid homage at the National War Memorial on 30 Sep 2023. A cake-cutting ceremony by MNS officers of Delhi Garrison was held at AH(R&R).
- The origin of MNS dates back to the pre-independence colonial era when British and Indian soldiers served in the British Army. The British Indian government established the Indian Army Nursing Services (IANS) in the year 1888.
- On 1st Oct 1926, the Permanent Nursing Service was raised in the Indian Army and designated as the Indian Military Nursing Service.
Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan Takes Over As DG BRO
- Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan took over as the 28th Director General Border Roads (DGBR) on September 30, 2023. He assumed the charge following the superannuation of Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry.
- Prior to his appointment as the DGBR, the General Officer was holding the appointment of Commandant, College of Military Engineering, Pune.
- Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan is an alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and was commissioned into the Corps of Engineers in 1987. He has participated in Operation Vijay, Operation Rakshak and Operation Parakram during his illustrious service.
India Needs Stronger Armed Forces To Become Developed Nation By 2047: Rajnath Singh
- India needs stronger armed forces with modern equipment to become a developed nation by 2047, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday while underlining the need for effective utilisation of financial resources by the three services. Singh made the remarks after launching several digital initiatives of the Defence Accounts Department (DAD) during its 276th annual day celebrations at Delhi Cantonment.
- Describing the DAD as the “guardian of defence finance”, he emphasised the need to bolster the internal vigilance mechanism so that any suspicious activity can be detected and reviewed immediately.
- This, he said, will not only help in dealing with the problem quickly but also increase the trust of the people in the department.
- The digital initiatives launched included an integrated defence finance dashboard for the Ministry of Defence — SARANSH (Summary of Accounts, Budget and Expenditure for Raksha Mantralaya) and BISWAS (Bill Information and Work Analysis System and e-Raksha Awaas).
Northern Army Command Conducts Two-day Army Air Defence Conclave
- Northern Army Command conducted a two-day Army Air Defence Conclave to review joint strategies for a comprehensive approach to counter evolving air threats and ensure national security.
- The Dhruva Command conducted a two-day DHRUVA Air Defence Conclave 2023 in Jammu and Kashmir on September 29 and September 30, 2023.
- Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi witnessed the equipment display and interacted with the participants.
- The conclave was held in the backdrop of the evolving air threats in the region, including the increasing use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by adversaries.
- The participants discussed a range of issues related to air defence, including threat assessment, sensor integration, weapon system integration, and command and control.
India Concludes Women Military Officers Course for ASEAN Countries
- India concluded its premier Women Military Officers Course for women military officers from ASEAN countries and the Indian Army. The initiative based on the United Nations framework, was organised under the stewardship of the Defence Ministry.
- The course has been designed to elevate leadership competencies, strategic acumen, and operational efficacy among female officers while offering a rich platform for cross-cultural interaction and mutual professional development, according to the press release.
- The course was conducted under the aegis of the Centre for UN Peacekeeping in India which has a rich history of training and deploying peacekeepers across various UN missions.
