Defence Minister To Inaugurate 90 BRO Projects                                       

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will on September 12 inaugurate 90 infrastructure projects of the BRO including four airstrips and helipads built along the northern and western borders, a spokesperson of the ministry said. The projects include 21 roads, 64 bridges, one tunnel, two air strips, and two helipads, he said.
  • Singh will visit Samba district and inaugurate Devak bridge on Bishnah-Kaulpur-Phulpur road, he said. The bridge is a part of the 90 infrastructure projects of the BRO.
  • The union minister will also likely take part in the northern tech event at IIT-Jammu during his visit, he said.
  • The BRO was formed on 7 May 1960 to secure India’s borders and develop infrastructure in remote areas of the north and north-east states of the country.
  • In order to ensure coordination and expeditious execution of projects, the Government of India set up the Border Roads Development Board (BRDB) with the Prime Minister as Chairman of the Board and Defence Minister as Deputy Chairman.

North Korea, Russia To Meet In Moscow To Actively Advance Arms Negotiations: US     

  • North Korean leader Kim Jong UN is planning to travel to Russia this month and will hold a “leader-level diplomatic engagement” with President Vladimir Putin to continue actively advancing arms negotiations, CNN reported citing the US government.
  • US National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson claimed that the US has the information that the North Korean leader will talk on the ongoing arms negotiations.
  • Earlier, the US claimed Russia and North Korea are “actively advancing” their talks regarding a potential arms deal that would provide significant ammunition for various weapons systems, including artillery.

IAF To Host Maiden Airshow In Jammu on Sep 21                 

  • A first-of-its-kind airshow will be held at Jammu airfield by the Indian Air Force on September 21, an official spokesperson said.
  • The airshow is being organised by the IAF in collaboration with the local administration and will feature a variety of aircraft, including fighter jets and helicopters, the spokesperson said.
  • The airshow would be a spectacular occasion for the local residents, especially the children and youth, the deputy commissioner said, urging all stakeholders to ensure that the event is a success.
  • The Indian Air Force will be celebrating its 91st anniversary on 08 October 2023. Keeping with the new tradition of hosting the Air Force Day celebrations in different parts of the country, this year’s Air Force Day parade and Air Display will be held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Visit Of Brazilian Navy Delegation

  • A Brazilian Navy delegation led by Admiral José Augusto Vieira da Cunha de Menezes, Chief of General Staff visited New Delhi and met VAdm Sanjay J Singh, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff on 05 Sep 23. 
  • The Brazilian delegation also held discussions with VAdm Sandeep Naithani, Chief of Materiel on areas of mutual cooperation, with focus on Indian Navy’s indigenisation efforts for achieving self reliance in Submarine maintenance.
  • India and Brazil share a very close and multifaceted relationship at bilateral level as well as in plurilateral fora such as BRICS, BASIC, G-20, G-4, IBSA, International Solar Alliance, Biofuture Platform and in the larger multilateral bodies such as the UN, WTO, UNESCO and WIPO. The bilateral strategic partnership, which has opened a new phase for India-Brazil relations in 2006, is based on a common global vision, shared democratic values, and a commitment to foster economic growth with social inclusion for the welfare of the people of both countries.

Indian Army Exchanges Techniques, Expertise With Participating Troops At Exercise Bright Star-23    

  • Indian Army troops in Egypt exchanged techniques and shared expertise with the other participating troops during Exercise Bright Star-23.
  • Indian Army and IAF contingent with Integrated Combat troops arrived at Alexandria for Exercise Bright Star-23 on August 29. The opening ceremony was held on August 31.
  • The Indian contingent of 550 personnel is among the largest Indian deployments for an overseas exercise, the Indian Embassy in Egypt said.
  • Initially, this exercise was conceptualized as a bilateral biennial training exercise between the US and Egypt during the Camp David Accord of 1977.
