‘New era, Free of Assad’
- Syrian rebels claimed on Sunday that President Bashar al-Assad had fled the country, urging Syrians abroad to return to a “free Syria” and announcing that Damascus was liberated from the “tyrant.”
- “The tyrant Bashar al-Assad has fled” and “we declare the city of Damascus free”, the rebel factions said on Telegram, adding that “after 50 years of oppression under Baath rule, and 13 years of crimes and tyranny and (forced) displacement… we announce the end of this dark period and the start of a new era for Syria”.
- The statement comes just minutes after the Syrian army command reportedly informed officers that Assad’s rule had come to an end following a swift rebel offensive, according to Reuters.
- Assad had flown out of Damascus for an undisclosed destination on Sunday, while rebels entered the capital with no signs of military resistance. Witnesses reported thousands of people gathering in a central square in Damascus, celebrating and chanting “Freedom.”
- US President-elect Donald Trump has said the U.S. should not be involved in the conflict and should “let it play out“.
Rajnath Singh Arrives In Moscow
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Moscow on an official visit during which he will witness the commissioning of a stealth warship into the Indian Navy and attend the 21st meeting of India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military & Military Technical Cooperation.
- During his visit, Singh is set to hold crucial discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin and co-chair the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation (IRIGC M&MTC) alongside Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov.
- “Also, I shall be attending the Commissioning ceremony of Indian Navy’s latest multi-role stealth-guided missile frigate ‘INS Tushil‘ during my visit. Looking forward to it,” the post added.
India To Set Up Anti-drone Unit For Border Security: Amit Shah
- Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that fencing has been completed along 591 kilometers of the border with Bangladesh. Shah was speaking at the annual raising day of BSF at Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
- The issue of human trafficking has been gaining attention in wake of the regime change in the neighbouring Bangladesh. India and Bangladesh share 4,096 kilometres of borders. Shah noted that floodlights have been installed along 1,159 kilometres of the border, and 573 border outposts, along with 579 observation posts, have been constructed.
Commanders’ Conference-2024 Western Air Command
- A two day Commanders’ Conference of Western Air Command (WAC) of the Indian Air Force was held on 06 & 07 December 2024 at New Delhi, with Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) as the chief guest.
- He emphasised the theme for this year “Bharatiya Vayu Sena – Sashakt, Saksham, Atmanirbhar“, and sought the collective capability, capacity and commitment of all commanders to take the IAF to even greater achievements.The Western Air Command (WAC) is the regional command of Indian Air Force headquartered in New Delhi. It is the largest and most important Air Command of the IAF, comprising sixteen Air Force Bases (AFBs), and is responsible for aerial defence of North India.

Armed Forces Flag Day
- December 7 is celebrated as Armed Forces Flag Day or Flag Day in India. The day is commemorated to honour the soldiers and the Bravehearts, who lost their lives in the line of duty. Since December 7, 1949, this day has been observed to pay respect to the military forces.
- The Armed Forces Flag Day is also dedicated to raising funds from Indian citizens for the welfare of Indian Armed Forces troops.
