INSV Tarini Arrives At Fremantle, Australia
- On 09 Nov 24 after a challenging 39-day voyage at sea, Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini, which is undertaking a global circumnavigation expedition christened Navika Sagar Parikrama II, arrived at its first port of call in Fremantle, Australia.
- The vessel has covered a distance of 4900 nm from Goa, crossing the Equator on 16 Oct 24 and the Tropic of Capricorn on 27 Oct 24.
- Navika Sagar Parikrama II is an ambitious circumnavigation voyage that includes stops at four major ports worldwide. The two-women crew expedition continues the Navy’s legacy of INSV Tarini’s first circumnavigation, promoting gender equality, sustainability, and global maritime cooperation.
Indian Navy Operational Demonstration 2024
- The Indian Navy is set to demonstrate its formidable maritime capabilities and operational strength at the ‘Operational Demonstration’ (Op Demo) scheduled at Blue Flag Beach, Puri, Odisha, on Navy Day (04 Dec) this year.
- The 2024 Op Demo to be held against the backdrop of the pristine Blue Flag Beach, symbolises the connection between the Indian Navy and the maritime legacy of the State of Odisha.
- The Indian Navy is working closely with the Odisha State Government and local authorities to ensure the smooth execution of the event.
Handing Over Two Interceptors To Mozambique
- Government of India gifted two water-jet propelled Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) to the Government of Mozambique on 08 Nov 24. The FICs were transshipped from India by INS Gharial.
- These water-jet-propelled boats have a top speed of 45 knots and a range of 200 nautical miles at 12 knots. They can carry a crew of five personnel and are equipped with machine guns and bullet-resistant cabins.
- The two FICs will significantly aid the Government of Mozambique in its effort to combat maritime terrorism and ongoing insurgency in the Cabo Delgado province.
India Set To Test Over 1,000 Km Strike Range Anti-ship Ballistic Missile
- At a time when defence forces are looking at creating a rocket force, India is all set to soon test fire a new long-range anti-ship ballistic missile which would be able to hit moving warships or aircraft carriers at distances of over 1,000 kms.
- The anti-ship ballistic missile would be capable of being launched from both warships and shore-based locations.
- The missile system is being developed for the Indian Navy and would give it the capability to take out enemy vessels from a long-range.
France Evaluating Pinaka MBRL System
- A top French Army officer said that they were evaluating the Indian Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher systems for their requirements.
- The Pinaka MBRL is developed by the DRDO and produced by agencies including Solar Industries, Larsen and Toubro, Tata and Ordnance Factory Board companies.
- The rocket system which can hit targets at 75 kilometres and beyond with its multiple variants has already been an export success as it has been ordered by Armenia and many other countries are showing interest in it.
- He said that for the 25th edition of the war games, the French Army would be inviting a strong detachment of the Indian Army to their country.
- France is the 2nd largest importer of Indian defence equipment after the US with a lot of electronics items going there from India.
Project ‘Shaurya Gatha’
- CDS General Anil Chauhan launched Project ‘Shaurya Gatha,’ a joint initiative by the Department of Military Affairs and the United Service Institution (USI) of India.
- The project aims to preserve and promote India’s military heritage through educational programmes and tourism.
- The Indian Military Heritage Festival seeks to bridge this gap in national discourse and the nation’s cultural calendar.
Army JCO, Militant Killed in J&K ops
- A junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Army’s special forces and a militant were killed and three Army men injured in three separate operations currently underway across Jammu and Kashmir.
- The operations are continuing in Sopore area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir, Zabarwan hills in Nishat area of Srinagar district in central Kashmir and Kishtwar district of Chenab Valley in Jammu division.
