Myanmar Receives First Shipment Of Russia’s Su-30 Fighter Jets      

  • Myanmar has received the first shipment of two Russian Su-30 fighter jets, Charlie Than, Myanmar’s trade minister, told the Russian RIA state news agency in remarks published. Russia and Myanmar signed a contract in September 2022 for the delivery of six Su-30SME fighter jets, RIA said.
  • Russian TASS state news agency that a number of bilateral agreements will be signed at the East Economic Forum, including on developing tourism between the two countries.
  • Eastern Economic Forum is an international forum held each year in Vladivostok, Russia, for the purpose of encouraging foreign investment in the Russian Far East. It is held each year since 2015 in September, at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia.

Modi, Macron Reiterate Their Commitment To Strengthen Defence Ties                                   

  • PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron held talks on the sidelines of the G20 Summit where the two leaders vowed to strengthen Indo-French defence ties through partnership in design, development & manufacture of advanced defence technologies and platforms including for 3rd countries in the Indo-Pacific.
  • The statement also said India and France welcomed African Union’s membership to G20 and resolved look to work with AU for progress, prosperity and development of Africa.
  • “Laying emphasis on areas such as digital, science, technological innovation, education, culture, health and environment cooperation, both leaders called for strengthening of institutional linkages in these domains, on the model of the Indo-French Campus for the Indo-Pacific,” it said.

BRO To Construct World’s Highest Fighter Airfield In Ladakh’s Nyoma           

  • The BRO will construct the world’s highest fighter airfield in the Nyoma region of Ladakh, an official statement said.
  • BRO said that the foundation stone of the project will be laid by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Devak Bridge on September 12.
  • Earlier, BRO chief Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry said that India will beat China in the next two to three years as the Narendra Modi-led NDA government is proactively working towards developing infrastructure along the 3,488 Km stretch of the Line of Actual Control.

IAF Chief visiting Spain To Receive First C-295  

  • Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari- the chief of the Indian Air Force, would be in Spain this week where he would receive the first C-295 transport plane made for India by global aircraft manufacturer Airbus for India at a facility in Seville.
  • The IAF has signed a contract for 56 of these planes of which 16 would be made in Spain while the remaining 40 would be produced by the joint venture of Tata and Airbus in their facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.
  • 16 aircraft will be delivered in flyaway condition from Spain within 48 months of signing of the contract and forty aircraft will be manufactured in India by TATA Consortium within ten years of the signing of the contract.

ICG Participates In 19th Heads Of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting

  • ICG participated in the 19th HACGAM from 05-08 Sep 2023 at Istanbul, Türkiye. A four-member ICG delegation led by DG Rakesh Pal, DG ICG took part in the annual event of the independent forum with 23 members of Coast Guard Agencies and 02 associate members in the form of ReCAAP and UNODC.
  • During the three-day High-Level Meeting, in which heads of Coast Guards of all member nations participated, a series of vital issues including maritime law enforcement, safety and security of life at sea, marine environment protection, illicit trafficking of drugs, weapons, and humans at sea etc were discussed.
  • This multilateral forum is an offshoot of the Japanese initiative to promote cooperation amongst regional Coast Guards, after the capture of the pirated vessel MV Alondra Rainbow by the Indian Coast Guard in Nov 1999.
