Naval Commanders’ Conference 24/2
- The 2nd edition of Naval Commanders’ Conference of 2024 is scheduled at New Delhi from 17 to 20 Sep 24. The Conference is the Apex level biannual event facilitating deliberations on significant strategic, operational and administrative issues between the Naval Commanders.
- During the Conference, Rajnath Singh will address the Naval Commanders on matters pertaining to national security and national expectations. The CDS along with the Chiefs of Indian Army and IAF will engage with Naval Commanders to foster collaborations amongst the three Services across spectrum of conflict and convergence towards theaterisation.
- The Conference will commence with the inaugural address by the Chief of the Naval Staff and he will review major Operational, Materiel, Logistic, HR Development, Training and Administrative activities pursued by the Indian Navy over last six months and deliberate upon key milestones to be crossed to safeguard maritime interests.
- The Commanders’ Conference as pivotal platform upholds Navy’s commitment to safeguard India’s maritime interests and Navy’s status as a ‘combat ready, credible, cohesive and future ready force’.
A CRPF Battalion Replaces Assam Rifles
- One of the two battalions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has already replaced the Assam Rifles in Manipur while the second battalion is to be deployed by September 30, said a senior government official.
- Manipur has witnessed fresh incidents of violence since September 1, leaving at least 12 people, including two women, elderly persons and a retired soldier, dead and over 20 others injured. The official said the weapons used in the attack were country made.
- Last week, thousands of Kuki-Zomi people came out on the streets of Kangpokpi district headquarters protesting the removal of the 9 and 22 battalions of Assam Rifles from Kangpokpi and Churachandpur.
India, US hold 2+2 Intersessional, Discuss Strategic And Defence Priorities
- India and the US held the 2+2 Intersessional on Monday and the discussions covered bilateral strategic and defence priorities as well as regional and global issues.
- The officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and Defence and the US State and Defence Departments attended the 2+2 Intersessional.
- Earlier on September 13, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held a meeting with a delegation from the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) here in the national capital.
- During the interaction, representatives from DFC acknowledged India’s significant potential as a key geography for investment. They highlighted the favourable opportunities in various sectors and expressed their commitment to further expanding their investment footprint in the country.
Two Indian Navy Women Officers To Embark On Gruelling Blue-water Global Voyage
- Two Indian Navy women officers — Lt Commander Roopa A and Lt Commander Dilna K — would be embarking on an arduous blue-water voyage around the world soon after three years of preparations.
- The duo will be undertaking the expedition of circumnavigating the globe onboard Indian naval sailing vessel (INSV) Tarini, Navy spokesperson Commander Vivek Madhwal said on Sunday.Lt Commander Dilna K, who hails from Calicut, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in June 2014. Her father, late Devadasan, served the Indian Army.Lt Commander Roopa A, a native of Pondicherry, joined the Navy in June 2017. Her father, Alagirisamy GP, was part of the Indian Air Force.
- The two women officers have been preparing for the ‘Sagar Parikrama’ expedition for the last three years, Madhwal said.
Israel’s Minister of Defence Yoav Gallant Updates Senior Advisor to US President Biden on war
- Israel’s Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant hosted the Senior Advisor to President Biden, Amos Hochstein, at the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv.
- The parties discussed the efforts made to change the security situation on Israel’s northern border, and to ensure the safe return of Israel’s northern residents to their homes. Those living near the border with Lebanon were evacuated because of continued attacks made by Hezbollah terrorists based in Lebanon.Minister Gallant emphasized that the possibility for an agreement is running out as Hezbollah continues to “tie itself” to Hamas and refuses to end the conflict. “Therefore, the only way left to ensure the return of Israel’s northern communities to their homes, will be via military action,” said his office.
- Minister Gallant emphasized the importance of U.S. support for Israel’s right to self-defense and for Israel’s commitment to returning citizens to their homes in northern Israel, following a change in the security situation in the area.
