Anantnag: Kokernag Encounter Over; Let’s Uzair Khan Among 2 Killed 

  • The Jammu and Kashmir police have called off the seven-day long operation in Kokernag area of Anantnag in southern Kashmir on Tuesday. Two militants, including an LeT commander, three army men and a police officer were killed here.
  • Additional Director General of Police of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, reached the encounter spot along with GoC Chinar Corps, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, to review the situation on the ground.
  • Earlier, Kumar along with Army’s GoC 15 Corps Commander Rajiv Ghai visited Gudool area of Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag to take stock of the ongoing anti-militancy operation that entered 7th day on Tuesday.
  • On late Tuesday evening, the ill-fated operation was initiated based on intelligence inputs indicating the presence of militants in a concealed forest hideout.
  • However, the militants swiftly detected the presence of the joint team comprising Army and J&K Police personnel on Wednesday morning.

Israel To Supply Suicide Drones To Undisclosed European Nation

  • Israeli defence contractor Elbit Systems announced on Sunday it was awarded a $95 million contract to supply its Skystriker “suicide” drone to an unspecified European country.
  • The Haifa-based company said the contract will see Elbit supply several hundred of the drones over a two-year period.
  • Elbit Systems’ SkyStriker LM is a fully autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle that can passively loiter in the sky until it locates a target and fires a warhead of up to 10 kg.
  • SkyStriker enables covert operations of up to two hours and has a range of 100 km.

Coastal Security drill ‘Operation Sajag’                      

  • ‘Operation Sajag’, a drill involving all stakeholders of the coastal security construct, was conducted by the Indian Coast Guard along the west coast on September 18, 2023. The drill facilitates revalidation of the coastal security mechanism and bring awareness among the fishermen at sea.
  • During the drill, extensive checking and verification of documents and crew passes of all fishing boats, barges and craft at sea was undertaken. A total of 118 ships including those from Customs, Marine Police, Ports & Indian Navy participated in the drill.
  • The day-long drill is conducted every month and the outcomes are further progressed for improvement in the coastal security construct. The drill enables to verify implementation of various coastal security measures besides bringing out important lessons and highlight trends in coastal security.

9 Separatist Outfits Supporting Terror Groups Have Bases In Canada 

  • At least nine separatist organisations supporting terror groups have their bases in Canada and despite multiple deportation requests Ottawa has taken no action against those involved in heinous crimes including the killing of popular Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, officials here said on Tuesday.
  • They said that pro-Khalistani outfits such as the World Sikh Organization (WSO), Khalistan Tiger Force, Sikhs for Justice and Babbar Khalsa International working at the behest of Pakistan have been allegedly operating freely form the Canadian soil.
  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said his government had “credible allegations” linking Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing with the “agents of the Government of India.”
  • India has rejected the allegations as “absurd and motivated”.

Azerbaijan Launches Military Action In Karabakh To Disarm Armenians 

  • Azerbaijan launched “anti-terrorist activities” in the Nagorno-Karabakh region to restore constitutional order and drive out what it called Armenian military formations there, a move that could foreshadow a new war in the region.
  • Azerbaijan’s defence ministry spoke in a statement of its intention to “disarm and secure the withdrawal of formations of Armenia’s armed forces from our territories, (and) neutralise their military infrastructure.”
  • Internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan, Karabakh has an overwhelmingly ethnic Armenian population and broke from Baku’s control in the early 1990s after a war.
  • Azerbaijan recaptured swathes of land in and around it in a 2020 war, but ethnic Armenian authorities who see the area as their ancestral homeland, remained in control of part of Karabakh, including its capital.
