Greenland Issues Crisis Preparedness Advisory Amid US Pressure

The government of Greenland has released a new public preparedness guide outlining steps residents should take in the event of a major crisis, at a time when renewed statements from former US President Donald Trump have revived global attention on the Arctic territory. The brochure, titled “Prepared for Crises – Be Self-Sufficient for Five Days”, advises citizens to be ready to manage basic needs independently during emergencies.

The guidance encourages households to stock essential supplies, including food for five days, drinking water at a rate of three litres per person per day, medical essentials, toilet paper, battery-operated radios, and equipment linked to traditional livelihoods such as hunting, fishing tools, weapons and ammunition. Greenland’s Self-Sufficiency Minister Peter Borg described the document as a precautionary measure rather than an indication of imminent danger, stating that authorities do not expect it to be used.

Work on the brochure began last year following repeated power disruptions. While Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen has said a military move against the autonomous Danish territory is unlikely, he stressed the importance of readiness. Trump, meanwhile, has reiterated his desire for control over Greenland for strategic Arctic positioning, though he has said force would not be used. Public opinion in Greenland remains strongly opposed to joining the United States, with surveys showing overwhelming resistance to such a move.

Indian Air Force Training Aircraft Crashes in Prayagraj

A microlite training aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed into a water body in Prayagraj during a routine training sortie on Wednesday. Both pilots onboard safely escaped after initiating the aircraft’s recovery system, according to defence officials. The incident occurred near the K P College ground in the George Town area around midday.

Authorities immediately secured the crash site, and the Indian Air Force has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the cause of the technical malfunction. Officials confirmed there was no damage to civilian life or property, as the aircraft was force-landed in an uninhabited area.

Although accidents involving training aircraft are uncommon, the incident highlights the inherent risks of aviation training. It comes amid increased scrutiny of flight safety following recent air accidents involving military aircraft.

Israel Conducts New Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon

Israel launched a fresh wave of airstrikes on southern Lebanon, targeting locations it identified as Hezbollah infrastructure, despite an existing ceasefire arrangement. Lebanese state media reported that Israeli warplanes struck buildings in towns including Qanarit and Kfour after issuing evacuation warnings to residents.

The strikes resulted in casualties, and several journalists covering the attacks were injured, including one AFP photographer. The Israeli military said the operations were in response to repeated ceasefire violations by Hezbollah.

Lebanon, under international pressure, has committed to curbing Hezbollah’s military presence, but Israel has continued periodic strikes, arguing that efforts to disarm the group have been insufficient.

India Accelerates Expansion of Space-Based Surveillance

India is moving ahead with an ambitious plan to strengthen national security through enhanced space-based surveillance. The government intends to deploy more than 50 new spy satellites in the near term, with long-term plans extending to around 150 satellites. These systems aim to improve border monitoring, particularly after surveillance gaps were reported during a recent conflict with Pakistan.

Upcoming satellites will feature advanced synthetic aperture radar technology, enabling imaging during night-time and cloudy conditions. India is also exploring overseas ground stations to enable faster data transmission, with possible locations in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and northern Europe.

The Space-Based Surveillance-3 programme is being fast-tracked, with the first batch expected to be launched soon. The overall project is estimated to cost around ₹26,000 crore, underscoring India’s growing emphasis on space as a critical security domain.

Trump Reiterates Claims on India-Pakistan Conflict at Davos

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Donald Trump once again claimed that he played a role in preventing a war between India and Pakistan. During his address, he also repeated his assertion that Greenland is strategically vital for the United States due to its location between major global powers.

Trump’s speech included sharp criticism of European nations, NATO, clean energy advocates and previous US administrations. His remarks drew attention for their broad geopolitical assertions, though they have not been independently verified by the countries concerned.
