Govt Panel to Plan IAF’s Capability Enhancement

  • The government has set up a committee that will work on a plan for capability enhancement for the air force.
  • To be headed by Defence Secretary RK Singh, the committee will look at current trends, requirements projected over the years and ongoing procurement cases for modernisation of the force.
  • Sources said that the committee has been tasked to come out with a comprehensive report and suggestions for capability enhancement. It is likely to complete the study within the next four months.

India, Kuwait Condemn Terrorism in “all forms”

  • India and Kuwait, issued unequivocal condemnation of terrorism in “all forms and manifestations” including cross-border terrorism, while calling for disruption of terror financing networks and safe havens.
  • During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kuwait, both sides discussed ways to promote cooperation on counter-terrorism operations, cybersecurity and prevention of radicalisation.
  • The Indian side welcomed Kuwait’s entry as ‘dialogue partner’ in SCO during India’s Presidency of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in 2023.
  • The Indian side also appreciated Kuwait’s active role in the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).

IDEX and NAVDEX 2025

  • Under the patronage of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defence, in strategic partnership with ADNEC Group, will be organising the International Defence Exhibition (IDEX) and the Naval Defence Exhibition (NAVDEX) 2025 on February 17-21.
  • IDEX returns as a global platform to showcase the latest defence technologies and enhance cooperation between international defence entities, with the participation of leading figures in the defense and security sectors.
  • NAVDEX continues its role as the largest maritime defence and security exhibition in the Middle East and North Africa, focusing on maritime security and advancing efforts toward a safer future.

Tashi Namgyal, Shepherd Who Alerted Indian Army During 1999 Kargil War, Passes Away

  • Ladakhi shepherd Tashi Namgyal, who is credited with alerting Indian troops about Pakistan’s intrusion in the Kargil sector in 1999, passed away at the age of 58 in central Ladakh’s Aryan Valley.
  • Namgyal was celebrated for his critical role in alerting the Indian Army about Pakistani infiltration during the 1999 Kargil conflict. He had attended the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas earlier this year in Drass, accompanied by his daughter Tsering Dolkar, a teacher.

Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade

  • To mark the successful completion of training of Air Force Special Forces operatives of ‘Garud’ force, Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade was held on 21 Dec 2024 at Garud Regimental Training Centre.
  • The Chief Guest congratulated the ‘Garuds’ on their successful passing out. While addressing the young commandos, he emphasised the significance of rigorous training and honing Special Forces skills to keep pace with the fast changing security scenario. He presented Maroon Beret, Garud Proficiency Badge and Special Forces Tabs to the successful ‘Garud’ trainees and gave away trophies to the awardees.
  • The Maroon Beret Ceremonial Parade is a moment of pride and achievement for the ‘Garuds’ marking the befitting culmination of an extremely demanding training schedule and their transformation into ‘Young Special Forces Operators’ joining the elite ‘Garud’ force and adding strength to the operational capability of IAF.
