Israel Says Tank Fire ‘Accidentally’ Hit Egyptian Post

  • The Israeli military said Sunday one of its tanks had “accidentally fired and hit an Egyptian post” near the border with Gaza as the army bombards the Palestinian enclave.
  • The Egyptian military said the blast had caused “minor injuries” but did not give details.
  • “The IDF (Israeli military) expresses sorrow regarding the incident” near the Kerem Shalom area, an army statement said.
  • The incident is being investigated and the details are under review,” the statement added.
  • The Egyptian army said Israel had “immediately expressed its regret over the unintentional incident and an investigation is underway“.
  • Since Saturday, 37 trucks carrying vital supplies have crossed to Gaza through its Rafah border post with Egypt, which lies around three km (two miles) from Israel.
  • Crossings between Gaza and Israel have been shut since the outbreak of war on October 7.
  • The United Nations has estimated about 100 trucks per day are needed to meet the needs of Gaza, where more than 4,650 people have been killed in Israeli strikes, according to the Hamas government.
  • The bombardment follows attacks by Hamas militants which killed more than 1,400 people in Israel.

US Warns Iran Or Its Allies Against Any “escalation”      

  • The United States warned Iran or its allies against any “escalation” in the wake of Israel’s war with Hamas, two top US officials said Sunday, hours after the Pentagon moved to step up military readiness in the region.
  • “We are concerned at the possibility of Iranian proxies escalating their attacks against our own personnel, our own people,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on CBS News. “We expect there is a likelihood of escalation.”
  • Blinken said the United States, which has sent two carrier groups to the eastern Mediterranean, was “taking every measure to make sure that we can defend them. And if necessary, respond decisively.”
  • Israel has since vowed to destroy Hamas and says around 1,500 of the group’s fighters were killed in clashes before its army regained control of the area initially under attack.
  • Austin said he had activated deployment of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense battery and additional Patriot battalions “throughout the region.”

Raksha Mantri Launched ‘Project Udbhav’                                            

  • Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh launched ‘Project UDBHAV’, during the inauguration of the Indian Military Heritage Festival, in presence of General Manoj Pande, Chief of the Army Staff, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari.
  • Project UDBHAV, a collaboration between the Indian Army and the USI, is an endeavour to revisit the roots of India’s ancient military thoughts.
  • ‘Udbhav’, which translates to ‘origin’ or ‘genesis’, acknowledges the vintage scriptures and writings of our Nation, that span centuries in the past and contain profound knowledge that can benefit modern military strategies.
  • The two-day festival aims to celebrate India’s rich military culture and heritage, through conversations, art, dance, drama, storytelling, and exhibitions. The festival seeks to create a benchmark in the domain of public engagement with military history and heritage through interaction while adhering to the goals for developing the Armed Forces in the 21st century. It also provides a platform for discussing various contemporary issues relating to India and the world pertaining to security, strategy, and international relations.

Mission Gaganyaan: Indian Navy Units Successfully Recover Crew Module

  • The Crew Module, separated from the ISRO’s test vehicle, which lifted off on Saturday for the Gaganyaan mission, has been successfully recovered by the units of the Indian Navy, officials said.
  • The Crew Module has been prescribed by the Indian Space Research Organisation to be recovered using a dedicated vessel and diving team from the Indian Navy after touchdown in the Bay of Bengal.
  • ISRO successfully conducted the first test flight of the ‘TV-D1’ (Test Vehicle Development Flight 1) in the Gaganyaan Mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh’s Sriharikota after it was aborted at 8:45 am due to a problem in the engine ignition.

INS Khanjar, Missile Corvette Celebrates 32 Glorious Years

  • INS Khanjar, an indigenously built Khukri class missile corvette celebrates 32 glorious years in commission today. Proudly living up to her motto ‘Better than the best’, she continues to execute all missions with vigour.

  • INS Khanjar is the fourth ship of the indigenously designed and built Khukri class missile corvettes. Built by GRSE, Kolkata, the ship is armed with an array of modern weapons and sensors. The ship is a part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet and is commanded by Cdr NVSP Kumar.

Agniveer dies at Siachen Glacier, Indian Army pays Tribute

  • An Agniveer died in the line of duty on the treacherous terrains of the Siachen glacier, the Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps said on Sunday.
  • The Agniveer has been identified as Operator Gawate Akshay Laxman, a resident of Maharashtra. The exact details behind Laxman’s death are not immediately known.
  • “Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman is the first Agniveer to have laid down his life in operations. He was deployed in the world’s highest battlefield Siachen glacier,” an unidentified military official.
  • The Indian Army’s Leh-headquartered Fire and Fury Corps also offered condolences to the Laxam’s family.
  • “Quartered in snow silent to remain, when the bugle calls, they shall rise and march again. All ranks of Fire and Fury Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of #Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, in the line of duty, in the unforgiving heights of Siachen and offer deepest condolences to the family,” the Fire and Fury Corps wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
  • The Indian Army in a message on social media post also said that it stands firm with the Laxman’s family in this hour of grief.
  • “General Manoj Pande (COAS) and All Ranks of the Indian Army salute the supreme sacrifice of Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, in the line of duty, in the unforgiving heights of Siachen. The Indian Army stands firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief,” the Indian Army wrote.
