Rajnath Singh Formally Inaugurates Sainik School, Jaipur
- In line with the Government’s vision to establish 100 new Sainik Schools pan-India in partnership mode, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh formally inaugurated Sainik School, Jaipur in Rajasthan on September 23, 2024.
- Of the 100 schools, Ministry of Defence has approved 45 in collaboration with state governments, NGOs and private schools. Forty (40) of these schools have started operations, and Sainik School, Jaipur is among them.
- The 100 new Sainik Schools in partnership mode are apart from the existing 33 Sainik Schools already functioning under the erstwhile pattern. These new schools, besides their affiliation to respective education boards, will function under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society and follow its Rules & Regulations.
Curtain Raiser Navika Sagar Parikrama II
- The Indian Navy is all set to embark on the extraordinary mission of circumnavigating the globe with the 2nd edition of Navika Sagar Parikrama expedition. A curtain raiser event presided by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Vice Chief of Naval Staff was held at New Delhi on 23 Sep 24.
- Indian Naval Sailing Vessel Tarini would sail on this challenging expedition with two courageous women officers – Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa A on 02 Oct 24. The historic voyage will be flagged off from Naval Ocean Sailing Node, INS Mandovi, Goa.
- Over a period of eight months, the duo will navigate more than 21,600 nautical miles (approx. 40,000 km) without any external assistance, relying solely on wind power.
- The route will take them through some of the most treacherous waters including the perilous passage around the three great Capes – Cape Leeuwin, Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope.
Territorial Army Expedition From Siachen To Sri Vijay Puram Concludes
- The Territorial Army concluded its 54-day expedition from Siachen Glacier to Indira Point (Sri Vijay Puram) for its platinum jubilee celebration, traveling a distance of approximately 5,500 kilometres by land, air, and sea.
- After having cycled through the entire length of country’s mainland, the team reached Chennai on 13 Sep 2024 from where they moved by air to Sri Vijay Puram (erstwhile Port Blair). There the team was received by Commander-in-Chief Andaman Nicobar Command, Air Marshal S Balakrishnan.
- The team hoisted the Tricolour under-water at Indira Point, which is the southernmost tip of India which got submerged in water during the Tsunami of 2004.
Israeli Strikes Kill 492 In Lebanon’s Deadliest Day
- Israeli strikes Monday on Lebanon killed more than 490 people, including more than 90 women and children, Lebanese authorities said, in the deadliest barrage since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war.
- The Israeli military warned residents in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate ahead of its widening air campaign against Hezbollah.Thousands of Lebanese fled the south, and the main highway out of the southern port city of Sidon was jammed with cars heading toward Beirut in the biggest exodus since 2006.
- The military said Israeli warplanes struck 1,600 Hezbollah targets Monday, destroying cruise missiles, long- and short-range rockets and attack drones. The spokesman said many were hidden in residential areas, showing photos of what he said were weapons concealed in private homes.
Quad Launches MAITRI Maritime Initiative
- India will host the inaugural symposium of the new regional maritime initiative for Training in the Indo-Pacific (MAITRI), to train Quad partners “to monitor and secure their waters, enforce their laws, and deter unlawful behaviour.”
- The first MAITRI workshop will be hosted by India in 2025, said Nancy Izzo Jackson, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs.The MAITRI initiative was among the major outcomes of the sixth summit level meeting of the Quad group of countries, PM Narendra Modi, US. President Joe Biden, Australian PM Anthony Albanese and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida in Delaware.These included the launch of a new coast guard exercise, a logistics network, expansion of maritime surveillance, and a project to combat cervical cancer.
- The next Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting will be hosted by the US in 2025, and the Quad Leaders’ Summit will be hosted by India in 2025. “The Quad is here to stay,” the declaration said. In 2025, the Quad Regional Ports and Transportation Conference is also likely to be held in Mumbai.
