Defence Current Affairs 25 March 2026
India is actively reinforcing its defence and strategic readiness as global geopolitical tensions rise, particularly in West Asia. Alongside this, the country is ensuring the safety of its energy routes, advancing its space ambitions, and deepening international defence partnerships.
India Reviews Security Amid West Asia Crisis
In response to escalating tensions in West Asia involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, India conducted a high-level security review led by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The meeting brought together top defence leadership, including Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Officials from the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Ministry of Defence also participated.
The primary objective was to assess the possible impact of the regional conflict on India’s security and economic stability. Given West Asia’s importance in global energy supply and trade routes, any disruption could have serious implications. India emphasized the need for constant vigilance and preparedness to handle any spillover effects.
Indian Navy Secures Energy Lifelines
Amid rising instability, the Indian Navy played a crucial role in safeguarding India’s energy supply. Two Indian-flagged LPG tankers—Jag Vasant and Pine Gas—were successfully escorted through the sensitive Strait of Hormuz into the safer waters of the Gulf of Oman.
These vessels were carrying over 92,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas, highlighting the mission’s importance. The route taken between Iran’s Larak and Qeshm islands ensured safe passage and clear communication with regional authorities.
This operation was critical, especially since several Indian vessels had been stranded in the Persian Gulf due to disrupted maritime activity. With India heavily dependent on energy imports—especially from countries like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates—such naval protection missions are vital for national energy security.
ISRO Advances Human Spaceflight Mission
India’s ambitious human spaceflight programme, Gaganyaan, is progressing steadily under the guidance of Indian Space Research Organisation.
Astronauts selected for the mission are undergoing rigorous training, including zero-gravity simulations. These exercises are conducted using specially modified aircraft like the Airbus A330 and IL-76, which perform parabolic maneuvers to create short bursts of weightlessness.
Such training helps astronauts adapt to microgravity conditions, improving coordination, orientation, and teamwork. In addition, they are undergoing survival training and mission simulations to prepare for the physical and psychological demands of space travel.
Iran Allows Conditional Passage Through Strait of Hormuz
Amid ongoing conflict, Iran has communicated to the international community, including the United Nations Security Council and the International Maritime Organization, that “non-hostile” ships may pass through the Strait of Hormuz under certain conditions.
This development is significant because the strait handles a major portion of global oil and gas shipments. The conflict has already disrupted nearly one-fifth of the world’s energy flow through this critical route.
Iran clarified that vessels not involved in hostile activities and complying with its regulations can transit safely, provided coordination with its authorities is maintained.
India–UK Defence Ties Grow Stronger
India is also strengthening its global defence partnerships. A recent meeting between Anil Chauhan and Harvey Smyth reflects growing cooperation between India and the United Kingdom.
The discussions focused on enhancing military collaboration through training exchanges, joint exercises, and intelligence sharing. A key initiative includes deploying Indian Air Force instructors to Royal Air Force institutions, improving interoperability between the two forces.
Both nations are also advancing cooperation in defence technology, research, and emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and advanced aviation systems.
