Defence Current Affairs 26 March 2026

India is taking significant steps to enhance its defence capabilities through strategic collaborations, infrastructure expansion, and technological innovation. Recent developments highlight the country’s focus on self-reliance, border security, and modern warfare readiness.

BEL Signs MoU with RRP Group

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with RRP Electronics and RRP Defense to explore new opportunities in advanced defence technologies.

This collaboration combines BEL’s expertise in defence electronics with RRP Electronics’ semiconductor manufacturing capabilities and RRP Defense’s strengths in electro-optical systems and unmanned aerial platforms. Together, they aim to design and develop cutting-edge technologies such as high-precision surveillance systems, weapon sight solutions, semiconductor components, and next-generation unmanned systems.

The partnership is expected to boost India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem and align with the government’s vision of reducing dependence on imports while also expanding export potential.

ITBP Expands Presence Along China Border

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has significantly strengthened its deployment along the India-China border by establishing 29 new Border Outposts (BOPs) since 2020.

These outposts are strategically located across the Western, Middle, and Eastern Himalayan sectors, covering altitudes from 9,000 to 18,750 feet. The expansion stretches from the Karakoram Pass to Jachep La, increasing the total number of ITBP outposts to 209.

This move comes after the Galwan Valley clash, which marked a major escalation in tensions between India and China. To maintain vigilance, the ITBP conducted over 4,500 patrol missions between April and December 2024, reflecting a strong commitment to border security.

Indian Army Integrates Shaurya Drone Squadrons

The Indian Army has introduced a major transformation in its armoured warfare strategy by integrating drone squadrons into tank regiments.

The induction of six “Shaurya” drone squadrons marks a shift toward modern, technology-driven combat. These units were showcased during Exercise Amogh Jwala, where drones operated alongside tanks to demonstrate enhanced coordination on the battlefield.

These drones provide real-time surveillance, precision strike capabilities, and electronic warfare support. When combined with tanks like T-90 Bhishma, T-72 Ajeya, and Arjun Mk1A, they significantly improve operational efficiency and decision-making speed.

The Army plans to gradually extend this integration across all 67 armoured regiments, ensuring continuous improvement through field experience.
