INS Sarvekshak Arrives At Port Louis
- INS Sarvekshak arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius on 26 Dec 24 to undertake Joint Hydrographic Survey.
- INS Sarvekshak will engage with Mauritian authorities through technical knowledge exchange, professional interactions and training sessions on hydrography.
- INS Sarvekshak (J22) is a hydrographic survey ship in the Indian Navy, under the Southern Naval Command.
- Built by Goa Shipyard Limited and commissioned into the Naval service at Kochi naval base in 2002, Sarvekshak is the Indian Navy’s eight hydrographic survey and perhaps the last ship under Sandhayak class to have been indigenously designed and constructed.
Japan’s Record Budget Boosts Social Welfare, Defence Amid Aging Population
- Japan’s government approved a record budget for the next fiscal year, ramping up spending on social welfare, as the population ages, and defence to tackle regional threats.
- The 115.5 trillion-yen ($730 billion) budget for the year from April 2025, greenlighted by the Cabinet, includes 8.7 trillion yen in defence spending.
- It also includes social security spending of around 38.3 trillion yen — up from 37.7 trillion the previous year.
- Japan has a pacifist post-war constitution, which limits its military capacity to ostensibly defensive measures.
- But it updated key security and defence policies in 2022, explicitly outlining the challenge posed by China, and committed to double its defence spending to the NATO standard of two percent of GDP by 2027.
Pakistan-based LeT’s deputy leader Abdul Rehman Makki Dies
- Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s brother-in-law and banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa deputy chief Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki died of a heart attack here on Friday.
- According to the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), Abdul Rahman Makki had been ill for the past few days and was undergoing treatment following high diabetes at a private hospital in Lahore.
- In 2023, Makki was designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations, subjecting him to an assets freeze, travel ban and arms embargo.
Pak Army Accuses India of 25 LoC Violations in 2024
- The Pakistan Army on Friday accused India of 25 violations of the Line of Control (LoC) during the past year and threatened a quick response if Indian forces attack.
- Army spokesman Lt Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry levelled these accusations at an year-end press conference, while not offering details to substantiate the charges. The spokesman said security forces killed at least 925 terrorists in 2024 and lost 383 of its own men in nearly 60,000 operations.The Pakistan military is battling insurgency mostly in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.
- The general claimed that India committed 25 LoC violations and also carried out several ‘false flag operations’.

- The Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps is demonstrating its operational excellence by conducting high-altitude combat engineering training at over 12,000 feet in Ladakh. Under extreme cold conditions, the Army’s combat engineers, or “Sappers,” are undergoing integrated training sessions to enhance their capabilities in executing engineering operations.
- The Fire and Fury Corps is a military unit of the Indian Army and part of the XIV Corps. The XIV Corps is based in Udhampur and is part of the Northern Command. The Fire and Fury Corps’s responsibilities include:
- Guarding the borders with China and Pakistan in the Kargil-Leh area
- Guarding the Siachen Glacier
- The Indian Army has 14 corps and 40 divisions. The Indian Army’s infantry is the largest arm of the army and includes personnel who engage in ground combat on foot, as well as mechanized and airborne infantry.
