Indian Army Acquiring Suitcase-based SATCOMS 

  • Indian Army is acquiring advanced hand-held and lightweight suitcase-based Satellite Communication (Satcom) sets to provide secure satellite-based communications to troops stationed in remote and challenging terrains along the LAC with China, as well as to Special Forces engaged in precision operations.
  • These contracts encompass various types of Satcom terminals, including man-portable Ku-band satellite terminals, S-band hand-held terminals, S-band manpack terminals, and light vehicle-based Ku-band satellite communication terminals, among others.
  • The GSAT-7B satellite project is expected to be operational by 2025-26, further bolstering the Indian armed forces’ communication capabilities in the evolving landscape of modern warfare.

IAF Enhances Fleet With New Dornier Do-228 Aircraft from HAL    

  • The IAF has welcomed the arrival of the first of six brand-new Dornier Do-228 aircraft, exclusively manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). This upgraded version of the aircraft boasts new engines, composite propellers, advanced avionics, and a modern glass cockpit.
  • The Ministry of Defence inked the deal back in March, securing the procurement of six Dornier-228 aircraft from HAL for the IAF, with a budget of Rs 667 crore. Originally employed by the IAF for Route Transport Role and communication tasks, these aircraft have also played a vital role in training transport pilots.
  • The Indian Navy has demonstrated its strong regional partnership by presenting its Dornier Do-228 maritime patrol aircraft to the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF).

Indian Navy To Release Updated Roadmap For Indigenisation Next Week                                         

  • The Indian Navy will unveil an updated new “indigenisation roadmap” next week with a focus on specific initiatives to achieve self-reliance in acquiring various critical technologies and platforms to boost its overall military might.
  • The roadmap will be released at the second edition of the annual ‘Swavlamban’ seminar to be held on October 4 and 5, Navy officials said on Wednesday adding Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the conclave.
  • An updated “Indian Navy indigenisation roadmap”, a document titled ‘Swavlamban 2.0‘ and new challenges for the industry are planned to be released at the seminar, said another senior official.

France Concerned About Indo-Pacific safety     

  • Chief of the French Army, General Pierre Schill expressed concern on Indo-Pacific’s safety and said that PM Modi’s participation in the Bastille Day is a sign of deepening strategic partnership between India and France.
  • “So France, as a nation of Pacific is also concerned in free movements and open space in the Pacific and the fact that through the multilateral coordination between nations and also armies to have the right and the laws been forced and for a free access to Pacific.”

31 Terrorists Killed In Joint Operations So Far In 2023: J-K Police 

  • Earlier, a total of 47 terrorists were killed and 204 apprehended in multiple operations conducted by the CRPF and other security forces in Jammu and Kashmir till September 26 this year, official sources said.
  • The data further reveals that a total of 111 terrorists are currently active in Jammu and Kashmir, including 40 local terrorists and 71 foreign terrorists. As per the data, 137 terrorists were active in Jammu and Kashmir last year.
  • Of the 47 terrorists killed in Jammu and Kashmir between January 1 and January 26 this year, including nine local terrorists and 38 foreign terrorists.
  • The number of terrorists neutralised in 2022 remained at 187, including 130 local terrorists and 57 foreign terrorists.
