Germany And Israel Announce Signing Of ‘Historic’ Missile Shield Deal    

  • Germany signed a deal to acquire the Israeli-made Arrow 3 hypersonic missile system that will become a key part of Europe’s defence against air attack. The signing of the deal was a “historic day” for both countries, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said.
  • Worth around $3.5 billion (3.3 billion euros), the sale is the biggest ever deal for Israel’s military industry. The Arrow 3 system would make “German air defence ready for the future”, Pistorius said.
  • The long-range Arrow 3 system, designed to shoot down missiles above the Earth’s atmosphere, is powerful enough to offer protective cover for neighboring European Union states.

Indian Army Moves To Buy ₹6.5k Cr Artillery Guns

  • In a mega push to promote indigenously designed and developed weapon systems, the Indian Army has moved a proposal to the Defence Ministry to buy 400 howitzers from Indian firms.
  • Indian Army’s Regiment of Artillery is looking to use the expertise of Indian Industry to produce 155 mm/52 calibre Towed Gun System, which will be lighter, versatile and cater for future technological advancements.
  • The Indian Army has already issued a tender for buying 307 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) along with one for finding a mounted gun system for its requirements along borders with China and Pakistan.
  • These gun systems include Dhanush, Sharang, Ultra Light Howitzer (ULH) and K-9 Vajra Self Propelled Guns.
  • Dhanush Guns are an electronic upgrade of Bofors Guns, while the Sharang Guns have been up-gunned from 130mm to 155mm calibre.

Troops From India, Other Nations Perform Yoga at ADMM +                                           

  • Troops from India and all other participating nations engaged in a Yoga session at ASEAN Defence Ministers plus EWG Exercise at Vladivostok, Russia, said the Indian Army. Several other countries including China are taking part in this exercise.
  • On September 23, an Indian Army contingent, comprising 32 soldiers representing the 14 Rajputana Rifles, departed for Russia to participate in the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting Plus Expert Working Group on Counter Terrorism, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
  • The Counter Terrorism Field Training Exercise (FTX) 2023 have been scheduled between September 25-30.

Manipur DGP Forms Committee To Probe Allegations Of ‘Excess Force’ By Security Forces       

  • Taking cognisance of reports about allegations of use of ‘excess force’ by security forces during the maintenance of law and order in the last few days in the Imphal area, Director General of Police Manipur Rajiv Singh,
  • Fresh protests erupted in Manipur on Monday after a video showing the bodies of two students who reportedly went missing in July went viral on social media.
  • The government responded by re-imposing the suspension of internet services for five days as a precautionary measure and announced that all schools in the state would be closed till Friday.

No Warship, Submarine Can Pass Through Indian Ocean Without Being Detected: Indian Navy 

  • “There is no way any country’s warships or vessels can pass through the Indian Ocean without getting detected by the Indian Navy’s P-8I anti-submarine and surveillance planes,” said a top Navy Officer.
  • At a time when Chinese Naval and research vessels have intensified their activities in the Indian ocean, a top Naval officer asserted that no country’s warships or vessels can sail through the region without being noticed by the Indian Navy.
  • While supervising the operations of the “game changer” P-8I aircraft at Nacala Air Station INS Rajali ( Arakkonam Naval Air Station), Captain Ajayendra Kant Singh told, “There is no possibility that any ship or a submarine would pass through the Indian Ocean region without 312 squadrons not knowing about it.”
  • The Commanding Officer of INS 312 squadron, also known as Albatross, said that at any point in time, there is atleast one P-8I aircraft airborne to carry out surveillance of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal to keep an eye on all activities happening there.
