Exercise Komodo 2025

Indian Navy platforms INS Shardul and Long Range Maritime Surveillance P8I aircraft are in Bali, Indonesia, to participate in the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2025, scheduled from 15 Feb to 22 Feb 25. This follows the participation of INS Mumbai & the P8I aircraft in the LA PEROUSE exercises in Indonesia in Jan 2025 and visit of Adm Muhammad Ali, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy, to India, as part of the high-level delegation for the Republic Day Parade 2025.

“Nineteen foreign warships are present, along with 17 Indonesian warships, ranging from the Indonesian Coast Guard and Marine Police Corps to fishing vessels, all joining this exercise,” he stated. The 5th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo (MNEK) also includes an environmental conservation and coastal abrasion prevention program.

“Indian Navy’s regular participation in the exercise is a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to engage with the regional Navies to maintain Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)“.

India-Indonesia Bilateral Relations

Joint Exercises like Samudra Shakti (Navy), and India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) enhance interoperability between the two navies and facilitate the prevention drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery, piracy etc. in the Indian Ocean region. Both countries established Strategic Partnership in 2005, later elevated to a New Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018 ,allowing for new collaboration in field of defence industry, science and technology etc. Both countries participated in the Bandung Conference in 1955, which led to the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement (1961).

Indonesia is India’s largest trade partner in ASEAN region.

Total Bilateral Trade between both countries stands at around USD 38.85 Billion (during fiscal year 2022-23)
