In an Airstrike conducted by the Israeli Air Force, the head of the Islamic Jihad’s Rocket force and his deputy were killed while the strike also took 30 other lives in Gaza including women and children. While after a backfire from Palestine, a first kill was confirmed on the Israeli ground. Even after Egypt which is acting like a mediating friend in between, the tension between both the countries is not settling down since August.
Senior Gaza Commander Killed By Israeli Air Strikes
Another airstrike killed two gunmen belonging to a Splinter group yesterday. After the events, Islamic Jihad, the second-biggest group in Gaza after the ruling Hamas group kept on firing a series of rockets. In a communique, they retorted that they will not retreat and the assassinations from Israel will only fue them to fight more. Hundreds of rockets were launched from Gaza which caused the blowing of sirens as far north as Tel Aviv. Some 1.5 million Israelis – 16% of the population – have been ordered to shelters.
While due to the fact that Israel is much more technologically advanced, its state of art equipment Iron Dome and David’s Sling were able to intercept 96% of the total rockets fired, but one of them was able to hit a residential building in Rehovot leading to the killing of an Israeli Citizen. Since January, more than 140 Palestinians and at least 19 Israelis have been killed in the war of the duo.
Egyptian Mediation: Not so Fruitful?
Since Egypt hosted the talk of Mohammad-al-Hindi who is the official of Islamic Jihad, has been acting as a mediator and all efforts by Egypt have not borne any fruit yet. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry told reporters. After conducting a Meeting with the Jordanian, French, and German counterparts in Berlin, Shoukry urged “peace-sponsoring countries to intervene and stop the attacks” and said Israel must “stop the unilateral measures that aim to destroy the future of the Palestinian state”.Islamic Jihad opposes cohabitation with Israel and advocates its annihilation. Among the terms of a truce, it seeks a stop to Israeli attacks against its leaders. That has been rejected by Israel.
