In a notable move towards advancing the technological capabilities of the Indian Army, General Upendra Dwivedi, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), visited the Directorate General of Information Systems (DGIS). This visit was aimed at reviewing ongoing initiatives focused on digitalisation, artificial intelligence, systems integration, and technology-driven transformations within the Army.
During his visit, General Dwivedi inaugurated the Systems Integration and Test Facility (SITF). This facility is specifically designed for the development, testing, and validation of the Command Information and Decision Support System (CIDSS). The CIDSS is anticipated to significantly enhance operational decision-making and integrated battlefield management, which are crucial for effective military operations.
Additionally, the COAS launched six new-generation applications intended to bolster operational effectiveness. These applications are set to integrate logistics, facilitate structured data generation, and digitise administrative processes throughout the Army. Such innovations are expected to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.
Engaging with the next generation of military leaders, General Dwivedi also interacted with interns from the Indian Army Internship Programme (IAIP) for the year 2025-26. He expressed appreciation for their professionalism and innovative perspectives, highlighting their contributions toward developing indigenous capabilities within the Army.
The COAS commended the efforts made by DGIS, underscoring the integral role of technology-enabled transformation, collaboration between the Army and academia, and fostering indigenous innovation. These elements are seen as vital for building future-ready military capabilities and enhancing operational preparedness amid the challenges of modern warfare environments.
