HII has recently secured a significant contract to support the U.S. Missile Defense Agency’s Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense (SHIELD) initiative. This strategic acquisition effort is designed to aid the Pentagon in realizing its ambitious Golden Dome system, which aims to establish a robust network of radars and interceptors to defend the United States against evolving air and missile threats.
With a maximum procurement ceiling of $151 billion, the SHIELD initiative involves the collaboration of over 1,000 industry partners dedicated to developing, testing, and deploying the necessary technologies for this comprehensive defense framework.
The contract awarded to HII specifically tasks its Mission Technologies segment with a diverse array of responsibilities aimed at accelerating the delivery of capabilities within the program. These responsibilities encompass a wide range of areas, including command and control integration, directed energy, cyber operations, microelectronics, spectrum management, training systems, maintenance, and logistics.
In a statement regarding the contract, Andy Green, executive vice president of HII and president of Mission Technologies, expressed honor in supporting the Missile Defense Agency on this critical mission. He emphasized the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing national security and providing protection to the homeland. Green described SHIELD as a pivotal component of the current vision for homeland defense and expressed enthusiasm about bringing HII’s expertise in directed energy, microelectronics, and systems integration to fulfill the mission’s requirements.
This partnership underlines the increasing focus on sophisticated defense technology solutions and the vital role of collaboration between government agencies and industry partners in protecting national interests.
