Junior commissioned Officer in the Indian Army is one of the three categories in which the Indian Army distinguishes the service personnel in the Organization. The three are NCO(Non-Commissioned Officer), JCO(Junior Commissioned Officer), and CO(Commissioned Officer). Indian Army Junior Commissioned Officer Direct Entry
Indian Army generally releases two notifications for Candidates to join the Indian Army as a Junior Commissioned Officer. Candidates can either join Indian Army as a Religious Teacher or a Caterer(Catering). Let us discuss one by one these posts and the procedure to join the Indian Army as a JCO through both entries. We will be discussing various parameters for joining.
Junior Commissioned Officer Religious Teacher (All Arms)
Religious Teachers preach religious scriptures to troops and conduct various rituals at Regimental/Unit religious institutions. Their duties also include attending funerals, ministering to the sick in hospitals, reading prayers with the convalescents, visiting soldiers undergoing sentences, and giving special religious instructions to the children and enlisted boys besides attending generally to the religious institutions and welfare of the Officers, Soldiers, and their families. - Pandit Gorkha
- Maulvi (Shia/Sunni)
- Granthi
- Padre
- Bodh Monk (Mahayana)
Education Qualifications of Respective Categories
Educational Qualification for JCO Religious Teacher Rte
- One Year Certificate for Pandit / Pandit Gorkha Shastri / Acharya with Sanskrit / Kand as Major / Core Subject
Educational Qualification for Granthi Sikh Candidate
- Any Recognized University in India Awarding Bachelor’s Degree in Any Stream.
- The applicant should be able to speak “Gyani” in Punjabi.
Educational Qualification for Pastor Christian Candidate
- The person must be ordained to the priesthood by the proper ecclesiastical authority.
- Must be on the beneficiary list in the authorization of the local bishop.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Any Stream from Any Recognized University in India.
Educational Qualification for Maulvi/Shia/Muslim Candidate
- Must possess Bachelor’s degree in any stream from any recognized Indian University.
- Only Alim in Arabic or Adeeb-e-Mahir in Urdu/ Urdu experts can apply.
Educational Qualification for Buddhist Candidate
- Must possess Bachelor’s degree in any stream from any recognized Indian University.
- Those who have received monastic or Buddhist priestly ordination from the appropriate authority.
- The high priest of the monastery where the person was initiated into the priesthood is known as the appropriate authority.
- The head priest should have a Ph.D. from Khanpa, Lopon, or Rabjam with the necessary math documents.
Age limit
In all kinds of recruitment related to the army, the age limit i.e the age limit is a main thing to keep in mind because older youth are not admitted in the army, then if you are interested in Indian Army JCO Recruitment, then you should have the relevant age limit should also be known. The age limit related to the Indian Army JCO Recruitment is as follows:
- Minimum Age: 25 years
- Maximum Age: 34 years

Medical Standards
A candidate must have a strong physique and good mental health, as well as a well-developed chest with at least a 5 cm expansion. They should be able to hear normally in both ears and have an adequate number of natural teeth, i.e. 14 dental points with healthy gums. They should not have any disorders such as hydrocele, bone deformities, varicose veins, or piles.

Candidates must regularly check the joinindianarmy.nic.in the website and keep checking on the updates posted there. Junior Commissioned Officer (Catering) (Army Service Corps)
The Army runs certain large training Institutes and Messes which require to feed large strengths of personnel. Also, there is a requirement that the food provided is wholesome with the correct nutritional intake. There is thus a requirement for candidates who are qualified/trained in catering services and who will be able to run the Messes of the Indian Army.
Education qualification for Junior Commissioned Officer (Catering)
10+2 or equivalent exam and Diploma / Certificate Course of a duration of one year or more in Cookery / Hotel Management and Catering Tech from a recognized University / Food Craft Institute. AICTE recognition is not mandatory.
Age Limit

The age limit related to the Indian Army JCO Recruitment in Catering Service is 21-27 years.
Written Examination
Candidates will have to go through a CEE test conducted by the Indian Army. The two-hour written examination will comprise one composite question paper of 100 marks. The minimum passing mark is 40. Results of the written examination and names of successful candidates shortlisted for interview along with the date and time of the interview will be communicated in situ.
