Overnight, Danish military sites experienced a surge in drone sightings for the second consecutive day, raising concerns among officials and prompting a heightened military response. The Armed Forces confirmed that multiple drones were observed at several locations across the military during this period but did not provide additional details regarding the incidents or specific countermeasures taken.
Despite the drone activity, reports indicated that no airports were closed during the night. However, the recent uptick in mysterious drone sightings in Denmark and neighboring Norway since September 22 has already led to significant disruptions, including airport closures. Danish authorities have indicated that the situation could be linked to broader geopolitical tensions, with suggestions pointing to potential Russian involvement.
Earlier, during the night from Friday to Saturday, Denmark’s military noted the presence of unidentified drones hovering over several military installations. The police reported observing “one to two drones” in the vicinity of the Karup military base, the nation’s largest military facility, which is critical for housing helicopters, conducting airspace surveillance, and supporting flight training and functions.
In light of these developments, NATO has implemented enhanced vigilance measures in the Baltic region, a move aimed at monitoring the situation closely. A NATO spokesperson stated that these measures include deploying multiple intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance platforms, along with at least one air-defense frigate stationed west of Russia to bolster regional security.
The heightened alert comes as Copenhagen prepares to host an important European Union summit, bringing together heads of government this Wednesday and Thursday, further emphasizing the need for stability and security in the region during this sensitive period.
