India, as Chair of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in 2023, will host the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on April 28, 2023. The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) is a 2001 intergovernmental organization. Along with India, the SCO membership comprises Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. Aside from member nations, two observer countries, Belarus and Iran, will attend the SCO Defence Ministers Meeting on April 28, 2023.
SCO Defence Ministers’ Meet
The Defence Ministers will examine, among other things, regional peace and security, SCO counter-terrorism operations, and effective multilateralism. ‘SECURE-SCO’ is the topic of India’s SCO Chairmanship in 2023. India places a high value on the SCO’s role in developing regional multilateral, political, security, economic, and people-to-people ties. The continued participation with the SCO has aided India in promoting relations with the countries in the region with which it shares civilizational ties and is regarded as India’s extended neighbors.

SCO’s policy is based on the values of national sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in domestic affairs, equality of all member states, and mutual understanding and respect for each of them. Mr Raksha Mantri On the sidelines of the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting, Shri Rajnath Singh will also hold bilateral discussions with the Defence Ministers of participating nations.
