Post Man Delivering

In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance healthcare access for veterans, the Department of Posts (DoP) has partnered with the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW) to introduce a dedicated medicine delivery service tailored for beneficiaries of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). This new service addresses a critical need by providing efficient pickup, booking, transmission, and doorstep delivery of medicines that may not be readily available at ECHS polyclinics.

Under this arrangement, medicines will be sourced and packaged through Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) at Common Service Centres (CSCs) situated near ECHS polyclinics. India Post, leveraging its extensive and reliable network, will manage the logistics and delivery process, ensuring that beneficiaries receive their medications safely and promptly—a crucial consideration for those relying on these services.

The initiative had its pilot run in Delhi on July 31, 2025, where it garnered significant positive feedback with over 1,700 packets of medicine delivered. Given this initial success, the service quickly expanded to the National Capital Region (NCR), incorporating areas in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Following a strategic assessment, a thorough mapping of 458 ECHS locations nationwide has been carried out, enabling the rollout of the service across the country, set to commence on October 17, 2025.

This initiative represents a significant commitment by the Department of Posts to utilize its vast postal infrastructure for the benefit of public welfare. The timely and reliable delivery of medicines not only reinforces India Post’s role as a dependable partner in nation-building but also underscores the government’s dedication to improving healthcare accessibility for ex-servicemen and their families.

The launch illustrates a progressive step toward integrated healthcare delivery for veterans, harmonizing technology, logistical capabilities, and community engagement to meet the diverse needs of those who have served the nation. This service not only aims to enhance the quality of life for ex-servicemen but also sets a benchmark for future welfare initiatives that can leverage existing public infrastructure for improved healthcare delivery.
