On the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, Indian Army personnel held yoga sessions at more than 100 locations along the country’s land and marine borders, making a ‘Bharatmala’.

The Army said in a statement that the events were attended by troops and their families, including children, as well as defence civilians, and that locals were also included in yoga exercises. According to the report, Army Chief General Manoj Pande was the special guest at the public yoga session held at Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment.

In keeping with the strengthened India-Africa collaboration, an outreach was also arranged in African nations by Indian Army troops deployed in United Nations Mission zones and in Training Teams as part of UN contingents, according to an Army release.
Recognising its international appeal, the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga by resolution in December 2014. The day’s goal is to raise global awareness of the numerous advantages of yoga practice.
