The Indian Army recently took part in the Technex’26 Defence Symposium 2.0 held at the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) in Varanasi. This event, organized under the auspices of the Surya Command, aimed to foster dialogue with students, researchers, and innovators, focusing on advancements in defense technology and military-civil collaborations.

Central to the symposium was the theme of enhancing military-civil fusion, emphasizing the necessity for innovative approaches to tackle emerging security challenges. Attendees engaged in discussions about how cooperation between various sectors can lead to effective solutions in defense.

Major General Amit Singh Sohal, General Officer Commanding of the Purva UP & MP Sub Area, delivered a keynote address where he articulated the Indian Army’s vision for a technology-driven transformation. He underscored the Army’s ambitions as part of the Decade of Transformation and the Year of Networking and Data Centricity 2026. In his speech, he spotlighted the pivotal role of emerging technologies, including drones, artificial intelligence, cyber capabilities, and autonomous systems, in reconfiguring the future battlefield landscape.

The symposium further reinforced the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, stressing collaborative efforts among the Indian Army, academia, startups, and innovators. This collaboration aims to spur the development of indigenous defense technologies which are crucial for national security.

Participants were also introduced to significant initiatives such as the Army Design Bureau and the Compendium of Problem Statements. These initiatives seek to attract innovative solutions from academia and industry, directly addressing various national security challenges.

In addition to the discussions, the Indian Army showcased a comprehensive display of advanced military equipment at the event. This exhibition featured an impressive array of modern battlefield systems, including nano, micro, and large drones, various weapons, communication radio sets, night vision devices, warfare vehicles, robotic mules, and artillery systems. This hands-on display provided students with an up-close experience of the evolving technologies in military operations, igniting interest in defense innovation and research.
