The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps recently undertook a thorough review of the operational preparedness of the White Knight Air Defence Brigade at its base in Jammu and Kashmir. This assessment was particularly significant in light of the brigade’s critical involvement in Operation Sindoor, a targeted strike against terrorist camps that took place in May 2025.
During the visit, the GOC praised the brigade’s precise execution and professionalism, underscoring its strategic role in bolstering air defence capabilities and safeguarding India’s northern frontiers in a region marked by instability. The White Knight Corps, officially known as XVI Corps and headquartered in Nagrota since its establishment in 1972, plays a vital role in the Indian Armed Forces’ ongoing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition to operational assessments, the GOC engaged in an interaction session with ex-servicemen, acknowledging their ongoing contributions to the military community. This outreach is aligned with the objectives of the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, part of the Ministry of Defence, which serves over 2.8 million veterans across India by providing various support schemes related to healthcare, pensions, and rehabilitation.
Images captured during the visit depicted the GOC inspecting modern air defence systems and equipment, as well as participating in discussions with local veterans and officials. This review served not only to bolster the forces’ operational readiness but also to highlight the Army’s commitment to soldier welfare and its partnership with the community in the region.
As security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir continue to evolve, this exercise is anticipated to enhance the overall security framework while reaffirming the Indian Army’s dual focus on operational preparedness and support for veterans.
