India Coast Guard has published a recruitment notification offering a challenging career to unmarried, young and dynamic graduates as General Duty Officers, Pilots and Engineers as Group ‘A’ Gazetted Officers. What is Indian Coast Guard?

The Indian Coast Guard is a multi-mission organization, conducting round-the-year real-life operations at sea. Despite being relatively small, it has a wide range of task capabilities for both surface and air operations.

The organization is headed by the Director General Indian Coast Guard (DGICG) exercising his overall command and superintendence from the Coast Guard Headquarters (CGHQ) located at New Delhi. For effective command and control, the Maritime Zones of India are divided into five Coast Guard Regions, namely, North-West, West, East, North-East and Andaman & Nicobar, with the respective Regional Headquarters located at Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Port Blair.

Eligibility criterion for Indian Coast Guard recruitment 2015 2016

1) For Men born between 01 Jul 1991 to 30 Jun 1995 (both dates inclusive)

Educational Qualification for Indian Coast Guard recruitment 2015 2016:-

  • For General Duty and General Duty(Pilots/Navigator): Candidate Should hold a Bachelor’s degree of recognised university with minimum 60% marks in aggregate. Mathematics and Physics as subject up to intermediate or class XII of 10+2+3 scheme of education with 60% aggregate marks of both subjects.
  • For Technical branch (Mechanical, Aeronautical, Electrical/ Electronics): (i) BE/BTech Degree with 60 percent marks in aggregate. (ii) 60 percent marks in Physics and Maths in 12th class or three year diploma course with an aggregate of 60 percent.

2) For Women born between 01 Jul 1991 to 30 Jun 1995 (both dates inclusive)

Note:

  • Maximum 5 percent relaxation in aggregate in the degree certificate only for SC/ ST candidates, NCC ‘C’ certificate ( ‘A’ grade) holders, Sports person of National level and Wards of Coast Guard uniform personnel deceased while in service. No relaxation for 12th class marks.
  • While short listing applications for call-up, priority will be given to candidates with higher percentage of marks in the degree.
  • Candidates to choose any one branch and any one examination centre.

What are the major roles of Indian Coast Guard?

  • Ensuring the safety and protection of artificial Islands, offshore terminals, installations and other structures and devices in any maritime zone.
  • Providing protection to fishermen including assistance to them at sea while in distress.
  • Taking such measures as are necessary to preserve and protect the maritime environment and to prevent and control marine pollution.
  • Assisting the customs and other authorities in anti-smuggling operations.
