Dehradun witnessed a momentous occasion today as the Indian Military Academy (IMA) held its esteemed Passing Out Parade (POP) at the historic Chetwode Drill Square. This event celebrated the culmination of extensive training for a new cohort of officer cadets, symbolizing their transition into commissioned officers ready to dedicate themselves to the nation.

General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff, graced the occasion as the Reviewing Officer and chief guest. In his address to the graduating cadets, he stressed the crucial elements of leadership, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to national security, particularly in face of an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.

In an impressive display, over 500 cadets participated in the parade, including officer cadets from 14 friendly foreign countries. Upon their commissioning, these young officers will not only serve in the Indian Army but will also bolster their respective national forces, enhancing international defence ties. The event featured precise drill movements and synchronized marching, alongside traditional ceremonies, notably the “Antim Pag” (final step), during which cadets paused for a poignant farewell glance at their training ground before stepping forward into their new roles.

The parade illustrated the transformation of cadets who have undergone intensive training in physical fitness, tactical proficiency, and leadership skills at IMA, often referred to as the “Temple of Martial Learning.” Since its inception in 1932, the academy has produced nearly 66,000 officers, including many from allied nations, thereby maintaining a legacy of distinguished service.

The preparations for this prestigious event included the Commandant’s Parade held on December 11, which set the standard for the day’s precision. Arrangements also encompassed traffic diversions in Dehradun to facilitate the influx of visitors. The ceremony attracted families, veterans, and dignitaries, evoking a deep sense of pride and emotional resonance among attendees.
