Indian Naval Ship Kumbhir, a Landing Ship Tank (Medium) was commissioned into the Indian Navy at Gdynia, Poland on 31 August 1986. It has been actively serving for the last 34 years safeguarding our waters and our nation silently, strongly, and swiftly.

‘Kumbhir’ has been named after a species of Indian crocodile. The crest design depicts an Indian crocodile on a Brown coastline with Blue & White sea waves.

Her motto ‘Shoorveer Paramveer Kumbhir’ has been a source of inspiration for courage & fighting spirit.

It is also known as INS Kumbhir (L-22). The ship has a length of 81 metres, beam of 9.5 metres and displacement of 1,200 tonnes and manned by six officers and 90 sailors.

The ship is fitted with rocket launchers and anti-aircraft guns is capable of operating the Chetak helicopter which enables the ship to perform a wide variety of roles including coastal patrol, coastal security, surveillance, #HADR and #SAR ops.

The primary role of the ship is to transport troops, vehicles, armament & accomplish all objectives of an amphibious operation which primarily includes the landing of combat equipment and personnel to an Amphibious Objective Area.
