In a significant advancement for India’s defense export goals, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Indonesia have shown interest in acquiring the Guided Pinaka Rocket System. This development was disclosed by Major General V Arya (Retd.), Executive Director of Solar Industries, a pivotal collaborator in the creation and manufacturing of the system.
This newfound interest follows India’s successful transfer of the advanced artillery system to Armenia, marking a milestone in the nation’s journey towards self-reliance in defense manufacturing. The Guided Pinaka system, developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) alongside private sector partners like Solar Industries, has garnered international attention for its precision, firepower, and versatility in modern warfare contexts.
The Guided Pinaka is an evolved version of the Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system, designed to accurately strike targets over distances greater than 75 kilometers. Features of this system include precision-guided munitions, a wide array of warhead options, and enhanced mobility, accommodating both conventional and asymmetric warfare needs.
Major General Arya pointed out that the successful deployment of the system in Armenia has paved the way for new conversations with nations seeking similar artillery solutions. He highlighted that the combination of the system’s capabilities, cost-effectiveness, and compatibility with contemporary military technologies play a crucial role in attracting foreign interest.
India’s defense exports have seen remarkable growth in recent years, bolstered by initiatives from the “Make in India” campaign. Solar Industries, among the leading producers of ammunition and explosives in the country, has been integral in scaling up production to meet rising domestic and global demands.
Potential defense agreements with Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, and Indonesia stand to not only fortify India’s strategic partnerships in the Middle East and Southeast Asia but also contribute to the nation’s economic expansion and technological standing on the world stage. The evolving dynamics in defense cooperation emphasize India’s increasing role as a significant player in the global arms market.
