The Indian Air Force (IAF) is taking part in Exercise Shinyuu Maitri alongside the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). The exercise is being held alongside the Indo-Japan Joint Army Exercise, Dharma Guardian, which is being held in Komatsu, Japan, from February 13 to March 2, 2023.
Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23
The IAF has sent one C-17 Globemaster III aircraft to participate in Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23. The exercise will take place on March 1 and 2, 2023. The first phase of the exercise includes discussions about transport operations and tactical maneuvering, followed by flying drills with IAF C-17 and JASDF C-2 transport aircraft. The exercise allows the subject matter experts to interact and study each other’s operational philosophies and best practices. The exercise will also help the IAF and JASDF improve their mutual understanding and interoperability.
Exercise Shinyuu Maitri 23 will be another step in the two countries’ expanding defence cooperation, as well as the IAF’s ability to operate in a variety of environments around the world. The exercise takes place at the same time as the IAF’s heavy lift transport aircraft fleet participates in Exercise Desert Flag VIII in the UAE and Exercise Cobra Warrior in the United Kingdom.
