European defense and aerospace giant Indra has forged a strategic partnership with Indian technology firm AXISCADES to collaboratively manufacture advanced systems tailored for the aerospace and defense sectors in India. The formalization of this partnership occurred at the prestigious Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, where the agreement was signed by Indra CEO José Vicente de los Mozos and AXISCADES Chairman Dr. Sampath Ravinarayanan. Their agreement was witnessed by leadership from both organizations, underscoring the significance of this collaboration.
Under the terms of this partnership, AXISCADES is set to harness its extensive design, development, and supply chain capabilities to produce a variety of Indra products within India. Key components to be manufactured include antennas for Tactical Air Navigation Systems (TACAN), Distance Measuring Equipment (DME) that provides in-flight data for aircraft, and advanced countermeasure systems aimed at protecting against missile threats such as Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS).
This alliance is expected to bolster Indra’s global reach and expand its network of defense partners, while simultaneously enhancing India’s stature as a manufacturing hub for next-generation defense technologies. This strategic move aligns with the Indian government’s initiatives, notably Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat, which advocate for increased self-reliance in defense production.
Beyond these manufacturing agreements, the two companies are exploring joint development opportunities that cater to both domestic and international markets. Potential collaborations may focus on Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) solutions as well as partnerships related to the DRDO’s CABS MRMR and MMMA programs.
Indra has a rich history in India, marked by its involvement in modernizing civil air traffic management systems and supplying critical technologies to the Indian Armed Forces. AXISCADES, recognized as a leader in the aerospace and defense technology sector in India, offers over 20 years of experience alongside a robust portfolio of engineering and production services, positioning it as a suitable partner for such global undertakings.
