The commissioning ceremony was presided over by Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, the Chief of the Naval Staff, highlighting the event’s importance to naval strategy.

The ceremony was hosted by Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, and attended by notable attendees, including senior naval officers, former Commanding Officers of the original Anjadip, and representatives from Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers and Larsen & Toubro, among other dignitaries.

Naming the ship after the historic island situated off the coast of Karwar, INS Anjadip is specifically designed for anti-submarine warfare in shallow waters, a critical aspect of modern naval engagements. The vessel measures 77 meters long and has a displacement of 1,400 tonnes, with over 80% of its components developed domestically. This significant indigenous content showcases India’s growing self-reliance in warship design and defense technologies.

INS Anjadip is configured as a rapid-response vessel, often referred to as a “Dolphin Hunter.” It boasts a modern anti-submarine warfare suite and an advanced Combat Management System, enabling it to effectively detect, track, and neutralize sub-surface threats.

The commissioning of INS Anjadip, following its predecessors INS Arnala and Androth, signifies a pivotal milestone in the Indian Navy’s efforts to enhance its operational readiness and capability. The vessel has been assigned to the operational and administrative control of the Flag Officer Commanding, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, further bolstering Indiaโ€™s maritime security framework and the protection of essential sea lanes and coastal infrastructure.

As the Indian Navy continues to modernize and expand its capabilities, the introduction of INS Anjadip is anticipated to play a crucial role in maintaining maritime security and responding to the evolving landscape of maritime threats in the region.
